About the role
The Arms Officer, Eastern District Arms Team will take every opportunity to prevent harm through the transparent, consistent, timely and efficient regulation of the Arms Act 1983 and Arms Regulations 1992, whilst fulfilling the administrative and educational requirements involved in promoting regulatory compliance.
In this role your main responsibilities will be the review of firearm licence applications, the processing of permits to possess and mail order or internet sale applications and visiting dealer endorsement holders. You may be required to visit licence applicants and referees, including other endorsement holders, to assess the suitability of the applicant and the firearms security.
Key Deliverables:
- Review and make assessments on the suitability of licence applicants post vetting.
- Undertake interviews of dealer endorsement applicants and referees, inspections of the dealer records and security arrangements. As required, this may include those for licence applicants and other endorsement holders.
- Ensure all records for endorsed firearms are correctly maintained and updated.
- Ensure the accuracy of the information recorded for arms items held by Police.
- Maintain a good understanding of the Arms Act, Arms Regulations, Firearms Safety Code and other support material.
- Appropriately represent Te Tari Pūreke as a regulator in a public facing position.

Special requirements
- Ability to be a self-starter, work with minimal supervision and have excellent time management skills.
- Strong interview and report writing skills.
- Experience with firearms is desirable.
- Ability to understand and interpret firearms legislation and regulations.
- Previous experience working in a regulatory environment is desirable but not essential.
- Competency in the use of an iPhone, a laptop and Microsoft Office 365 software including Outlook.
- Ability to pass Police background checks.
- A full driver licence and reliable transport are essential as you will be required to use your personal vehicle for work purposes, with reimbursement based on IRD rates.

Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $69,337.00.
