Job Summary
Holy Cross Academy is seeking a passionate and creative Art Teacher to fill a maternity leave from early September through early December (three days per week). The ideal candidate will inspire students from Kindergarten through 5th Grade to explore their artistic talents while fostering an environment that integrates Catholic values with the fine arts. You will be responsible for developing a comprehensive art curriculum that introduces various mediums, art history, and techniques, helping students find their unique voices through visual expression.
Instruction & Curriculum
- Design and implement a standards-based art curriculum that covers drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and digital media.
- Integrate faith-based themes and Catholic social teachings into art projects where appropriate.
- Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs and skill levels of students across different grade levels.
- Incorporate art history and appreciation, exposing students to a diverse range of artists and cultural movements.
Classroom Management & Culture
- Maintain a safe and organized art studio, ensuring all materials and equipment are used properly and stored safely.
- Cultivate a positive classroom environment that encourages risk-taking, creativity, and mutual respect among students.
- Manage the art budget and order supplies efficiently to ensure the program remains well-equipped.
School Community Engagement
- Organize and curate annual school art shows or community exhibitions to showcase student work.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers on interdisciplinary projects (e.g., set design for school plays or liturgical celebrations).
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide events.
Skills
- Strong proficiency in various artistic techniques and mediums.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to use technology effectively in the classroom (e.g., digital portfolios, smartboards).
Physical Demands
- Must be able to move around the classroom to assist students, lift art supplies (up to 25 lbs), and handle various art tools/equipment.
