About New Zealand Couriers

New Zealand Couriers have been helping Kiwis get their deliveries sorted since 1964. We are a nationwide team of over 1,100 people and we deliver tens of millions of parcels a year. We are committed, we know our stuff and we’re proud to serve the communities we work in.

As the flagship brand in the Freightways Group, we have enjoyed strong growth over recent years, and we’re looking for a driven, hands-on leader to take charge of our Nelson branch.

About the Role

As Branch Manager, you will be responsible for the operational and financial success of the Lower Hutt branch. You’ll lead the day-to-day operations of the branch, ensuring service excellence, safety, and team engagement remain front and centre. You’ll work closely with our contractors, operations, and customer service teams to make sure freight moves smoothly, customers stay happy, and people go home safe every day.

Identifying opportunities for growth and service improvement, fostering a culture of high performance, and delivering meaningful financial reporting and forecasting will be key areas of focus.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee branch performance, service quality, and productivity targets
  • Manage contractor relationships and foster a strong team culture
  • Drive continuous improvement across safety, service, and cost efficiency
  • Analyse financial performance to identify improvements
  • Lead health & safety compliance and a zero-harm culture

What you’ll bring

  • Proven leadership experience in operations, logistics, or service delivery
  • Strong people and relationship management skills
  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset and calm approach under pressure
  • Commitment to safety and operational excellence
  • A passion for teamwork and delivering for customers

About You

People are at the heart of our business, and your leadership approach should be people first. Empathy and an ability to connect with people at different levels and from all backgrounds will serve you well in this role.

An understanding of high-volume, fast-paced operational environments will be a key strength. Previous responsibility for divisional P&L is essential, and you should be skilled at analysing data to find business insights.

The successful applicant must have New Zealand working rights, and will need to undergo a criminal history check and pre-employment drug test.

We encourage you to apply early as we will be reviewing applications regularly and may close the advertisement early.
