What You’ll Do

As a Bunker Purchaser, you will be responsible for planning, purchasing, and monitoring bunker fuel for our vessels, ensuring optimal fuel quality, cost efficiency, and operational performance. You will collaborate closely with vessel Masters, Chief Engineers, and industry partners while helping shape our future fuel strategy.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Plan and execute bunker fuel purchases using market intelligence and industry trends.
  • Negotiate competitive bunker prices while maintaining ISO quality standards.
  • Optimize bunker intake across our global trade network to maximize cost efficiency.
  • Coordinate fuel requirements with vessel Masters and Chief Engineers.
  • Monitor developments in future fuels, particularly ammonia and other low-carbon alternatives.
  • Develop and improve operational guidelines and procurement processes.
  • Share market insights and fuel performance updates through regular reporting.
  • Support Höegh Autoliners’ decarbonization initiatives and sustainability goals.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies or a related field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Process Industry, Oil & Gas).
  • Experience in shipping or the bunker industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of gas fuels and alternative marine fuels is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to build strong relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Team player with a proactive attitude and eagerness to learn.
  • Passion for sustainability and the decarbonization of the maritime industry.
