The Manager, Global Business Communications is a strategic leader responsible for translating business priorities into clear, compelling communications that drive associate understanding, engagement, and alignment. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications & Employer Brand, this role provides communications counsel to leaders across the company, leads a team of Business Communications Managers, and ensures consistent messaging that advances organizational priorities and business objectives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the business translating strategy and business priorities into clear, compelling messages that inform and inspire associates.

  • Lead, develop, and coach a team of Business Communications Managers, fostering strategic thinking, strong business partnership, and communications excellence across the function.

  • Drive the development and governance of enterprise and functional message frameworks that ensure communications are consistent, aligned to business priorities, and reinforce organizational goals.

  • Oversee companywide business communications, including executive and financial communications, leadership content, and the strategic optimization of content across channels.

  • Lead crisis and issues communications, providing decisive counsel and clear, timely messaging that safeguards the organization’s reputation.

  • Lead alignment between internal and external communications to deliver a unified corporate voice across associate and external channels.

  • Lead communications strategy for associate content on company social media channels. Create content pipeline and drive the team to execute.

  • Establish and monitor communication metrics to evaluate effectiveness, provide insights to leadership, and inform continuous improvement in partnership with the Channel and Operations team.

  • Establish performance expectations and accountability for Business Communications Managers in the areas of:

  • Strategic business partnership and communications counsel

  • Proactive application of audience insights and communications best practices

  • Message architecture, key message development, and governance

  • Measurement and continuous improvement of communications effectiveness

  • Partner with international sites to ensure communications are globally aligned while enabling appropriate regional relevance and market-specific needs.

  • Develop and manage content development vendors in support of communications efforts.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and engagement

 

 

Leadership Responsibilities  

  • Partner with leadership and across peer managers to:

  • Align and engage team to company vision, values and EVP/CVP

  • Coach and develop associates and hold them accountable to goals and expectations, relative to their roles

  • Inform future talent needs and develop plans to meet the needs of a changing landscape.

  • Ensure respective strategies and initiatives are holistic and/or complementary, prioritized, make the best use of the team’s available resources, and position us for maximum outcomes

  • Share insights, key messaging, and strategic decisions

  • Identify and support operational and process improvements

  • Build organizational capability by developing talent pipelines, succession plans, and leadership readiness within the communications function.

  • As a leader, you are expected to know, enforce, and appropriately escalate all Swagelok associate policies.

 

Approximate # of direct reports: 4 

Approximate Travel required: up to 5%

Education and Work Experience Requirements: 

  • A four-year college degree is preferred, with emphasis on communications, marketing, advertising or business management.

  • 10+ years of experience as a major contributor in a functional area with leadership experience included

  • Excellent judgment and ability to plan and align to vision. Proven ability to identify, evaluate, and rank business opportunities to maximize communications’ impact.

  • Expertise in corporate communications, including content and channel strategy. Up-to-date, holistic knowledge of communications best practices.

  • Advanced problem-solving abilities and abilities to design procedures to enhance operations.

  • Strong writing and presentation skills with strong command of influence and active listening competencies. Ability to interface and effectively engage with senior management.

  • Ability to organize and handle multiple projects through varying stages of development and approval, both independently and through the work of associates and agency partners.

 

Working conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Working conditions associated with normal office environment.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, telephone, copier, printer, etc.).
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both small and large groups and settings.
  • Ability to traverse between multiple locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania as needed.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
