Job Summary

The Part-Time Cantor at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church supports the parish’s liturgical life by leading congregational singing and proclaiming sung prayer during worship services. This part-time role works collaboratively with the Organist, clergy, and liturgy staff to enhance the prayer experience through music that reflects the traditions of the Roman Catholic Church.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead congregational singing during assigned weekend Masses, holy days, funerals, weddings, and other liturgical celebrations as scheduled.
  • Proclaim psalms, Gospel acclamations, and other sung liturgical texts clearly and confidently.
  • Collaborate with the Organist and liturgy staff to prepare and plan music selections appropriate to the liturgical calendar.
  • Attend rehearsals as needed to ensure musical preparedness and coordination.
  • Model appropriate liturgical presence, reverence, and professionalism during worship services.
  • Support active participation of the congregation through confident leadership and clear vocal delivery.
  • Follow parish policies, diocesan liturgical norms, and scheduling expectations.
  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a respectful demeanor consistent with the mission of the parish.

Qualifications

  • Strong singing voice with the ability to cantor solo and lead congregational music.
  • Ability to read music and sing from hymnals, psalters, or other liturgical resources.
  • Familiarity with Catholic liturgy and sacred music traditions (preferred).
  • Prior experience as a cantor or liturgical musician (preferred).
  • Strong collaboration, communication skills, and dependability.
  • Commitment to supporting the worship life and mission of St. Mark Catholic Church.
