Newmont’s Merian operation in Suriname is an open pit gold mine approximately 66km south of the town Moengo and 30 km north of the Nassau Mountains near the French Guiana. Your Impact
Provide technical expertise and support for power plant operations to ensure efficiency and reliability.
As part of our team you will
In this role, the individual will:
- Demonstrate proactive leadership in achieving the Newmont Always Safe culture
- Support the team members to complete all tasks safely, assess safety concerns, and provide procedural and technical improvements
- Execute Critical Control Verifications and Safety Interactions
- Support the implementation of operational excellence initiatives, including Full Potential projects
- Assess performance and productivity gaps and provide standard methodologies to improve power plant performance
- Support and guide front-line leaders to effectively handle their crews and adhere to safety standards
- Deliver on-the-job training with operators & maintainers to improve productivity and safety performance
- Assist development and embedding of operational procedures, Standard Task Procedures (STPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
- Adhere to compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Complete regular inspections and audits of power plant operations
- Responsible for assessing relevant risks, implementing mitigation measures, and continuously monitoring for risks
- Developing a performance-based team culture
- Conduct root cause analysis investigations and develop defect elimination processes
- Provide support for asset management programs, including hydrocarbon management, asset integrity & condition monitoring.
Prerequisites for your success in this role
- Mechanical/Electrical engineering, technical diploma or trade qualifications
- Power Plant or other similar heavy industrial/mining industry experience (minimum 10 years)
- SAP ERP system experience is desirable
- Understanding of reliability principles and data-driven insights
- Strong technical knowledge in engine-based power plants (preferred Wartsila)
- Capability to oversee engine and auxiliary equipment rebuilds
- Root cause analysis or similar failure mode analysis experience
- Review and analyze condition monitoring data
- Experience with boilers and team systems (highly desirable)
- High-level verbal and written English communication skills. Similar capabilities in Dutch are highly desirable.
- Advanced computer skills.
Your work environment
This position is located at Merian, at the project sites. Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment
The Merian mine is located in Northeastern Suriname, approximately 98 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Paramaribo and 60 kilometers south of Moengo.
Accommodation is in a camp/village environment near the workplace under rotational roster (6 weeks on site and 3 weeks off) with additional work time as required to meet operational commitments.
Suriname has a tropical climate with dry and two rainy seasons with anticipated tropical rainfall of 1.5m to 2.5m of rain per year.
