About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Purpose
To safely, effectively and efficiently perform various mechanical repairs & maintenance activities assigned by the Supervisor on equipment common to a process plant operation, associated to Autoclaves, NCA Tanks, Crushing, Grinding, Flotation, Conveyor systems, support facilities & ancillary equipment.
Essential Duties
- Ensures personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies including Fitness for Work.
- Completes any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and any corrections are firstly agreed by the relevant Supervisor.
- Understands risk assessment and applying correct safety controls.
- Works constructively within a diverse group of people.
- Willing to participate in healthy challenges and openly share learnings.
- Delivers consistently on commitments and takes accountability for own development.
- Performs fabrications, repairs and maintenance in the field or workshop on fixed plant equipment, structures and components of the processing facility, and writes reports detailing work performed and problems found.
- Effectively communicates day-to-day maintenance issues with the supervisor and with other sections and work groups by providing updates of relevant issues and seeking information or input as required to define maintenance priorities and develop effective working relationships.
- Escalates any issues, delays or roadblocks impacting ability to execute tasks.
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections on plant equipment as directed.
- Ensures workshop facilities and equipment within area of responsibility are kept in good working order.
- Actively seeks cost reduction opportunities and identifies & reports any cost wastage within designated area.
- Demonstrate ownership mindset.
Training & Experience
- 3 – 5 years relevant work experience desirable in Fixed Plant maintenance preferably within a mining environment; either through experience in a similar operation or through progression as an NML Trainee Operator
- NATTB Trades Certificate in Maintenance Fitting is desired or other mechanical trade qualification essential.
- Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on fixed plant equipment machining, fitting, poly welding, pipe fitting, pump rebuilds, fabrication and sound knowledge in hydraulic systems
- Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety and develops an understanding of the legal requirements, HSE standards and standard operating procedures relevant to direct work area
- Works well with others, listens actively, seeks inputs and asks clarification questions to check understanding staying focused and composed in a variety of work situations
- Effectively manages own time to complete tasks in line with job expectations and requirements adjusting plans to cater for unforeseen events / disruptions
- Recognises problems and proactively works towards resolution under the guidance of immediate supervisor
- Recognises opportunities to minimise waste and addresses it according to the HSE and operational standards and practices.
- PNG National Driver’s License essential.
