Your Impact
  • The Mechanical Technician – Fixed Plant is responsible for the inspection, repair, overhaul, and installation of fixed plant equipment and installations including crushers, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, mills, screens and their accessories/attachments.
  • The role ensures equipment availability and reliability, ensuring that production targets are met through preventative and corrective maintenance activities. Safe use of tools, and accurate reporting, all in line with Newmont’s Health, Safety, and Environment standards and expected of this role.
As Part Of Our Team You Will:

Health, Safety and Environment 

  • Deliver own prescribed outcomes and / or provide support services, by applying Newmont’s Health, Safety and Environment systems, policies and protocols.
  • Maintain general housekeeping of tools utilized.
  • Participate in regular (i.e. daily) safety leadership efforts.
  • Ensure that safety standards are adhered to.
  • Eliminate any safety hazards caused by mechanical defects.
  • Attend and contribute to discussions at all safety meetings.

 

Mechanical Maintenance

  • Have understanding of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices, including condition monitoring and reliability improvement techniques.
  • Have working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, and auxiliary mechanical systems.
  • Inspect, repair, overhaul, rebuild, assemble and install key mechanical equipment and components, including crushers, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, mills, screens, cyclones, cranes, heat exchangers and agitators.
  • Use hand tools, portable electrical tools, workshop equipment and precision measuring tools safely and effectively to support maintenance work.
  • Test repaired equipment, complete shift handovers documentation, record key maintenance information and provide technical support to the Mechanical Supervisor.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts, through downtime reduction and maintenance cost control initiatives as well as Standard Task Procedure development and/or improvement.

 

Reporting 

  • Maintain records of maintenance and repair work.
  • Compile reports on field observations and factor results into weekly / fortnightly planning.
  • Produce daily reports indicating the jobs completed for the day and submit the report to the Mechanical supervisor – Fixed plant.
  • Complete Preventive Maintenance and inspection checklists

 

Solutions Analysis 

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical equipment/systems and determine corrective repair options within OEM design parameters/specifications.
  • Carry out corrective repairs that restores equipment/systems to safe operational state
  • Conduct visual inspections with guidance.
  • Analyze repetitive problems/issues and support reliability/maintenance engineering efforts to find root causes and implement solutions to improve the reliability of all fixed plant assets.

 

Work Scheduling and Allocation 

  • Accomplish work objectives by determining own daily work and prioritisation schedule.
  • Coordinate with support services and assign short term tasks to other Technicians, as necessary.
  • Respond to inquiries and instructions in a professional manner.
Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • A minimum of Mechanical Engineering Technician certificate or equivalent.
  • MINCOM certification as an Inspection Engineer is an advantage.

 

Additional Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical maintenance principles and industry standards.
  • Sound Knowledge of the work management process.
  • Basic knowledge of planning and scheduling.
  • Basic knowledge of CMMS/ERP.

 

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 3 years’ mechanical maintenance experience in fixed plant equipment.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with supervisors, peers, contractors, and operations personnel.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documentation, including engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment manuals, maintenance procedures, and schematics.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical faults, identify root causes of equipment failures, and prepare accurate verbal and written technical reports.
  • Proficiency in the use of mechanical tools, precision measuring instruments, and maintenance equipment for installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair fixed plant equipment, including pumps, conveyors, crushers, screens, gearboxes, piping systems, and valves.
  • Strong understanding and application of safety standards, including LOTOTO(Lockout/Tagout/Testout), risk assessment, and safe work procedures.
  • Ability to maintain high-quality workmanship and execute maintenance activities in compliance with company standards, statutory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to perform precision alignment, bearing installation, equipment inspections, and mechanical fitting activities
