About the role 

The WA Market Reforms team sits within the Western Australia division and is responsible for the working with the Western Australian Government to define and implement policy change to the Western Australian Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and WA Gas Bulletin Board.

 

You will work autonomously to lead the analysis, design and implementation of complex process and system changes to execute the WA Governments energy policy across AEMOs systems and processes. As a subject matter authority on power system engineering practices, you will provide expert advice to the WA Government to support the development of rule changes and lead the subsequent implementation of the policy within AEMOs systems and processes.

 

What you will be doing  

  • Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders and WA Government rule makers to provide expert technical advice, business understanding, and regulatory requirements to support the development of solutions that align to the policy intent.
  • Leverage subject matter expertise of markets, systems and processes to proactively identify and manage complex technical, operational, regulatory and policy risks across power system engineering frameworks, supported by robust quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Lead the identification and analysis of changes to procedures, processes and/or systems resulting from regulatory change.
  • Provide direction to projects during feasibility and support project resources during implementation by providing expert understanding of the ESM and SWIS Technical rules, mechanics of electricity generating systems, and a technical understanding of AEMOs systems and processes.
  • Coach and supporting team members to develop expert technical advice and business acumen on complex cross functional technical, operational, regulatory or policy issues affecting AEMOs functions.

 

What you will bring to the role  

  • Experienced energy sector professional with a comprehensive understanding of the political and regulatory framework in which the WA energy industry operates and AEMOs operations within these energy markets and power systems.
  • Significant experience in power systems in the Energy sector, ideally but not limited to experience interpreting and operating in compliance with technical documents and/or legal instruments, such as rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated technical experience in implementation of complex technical, regulatory or operational process in IT systems.
  • Proven qualitative and quantitative analytical skills and ability to lead the development of high-quality written reports and deliver effective presentations which communicate highly technical, complicated concepts or issues to audiences with a range of backgrounds.
  • Experience in leadership roles in small teams is viewed favourably.
