Phu Bia Mining Limited is a Lao-registered company, 90 per cent owned by PanAust, an Australian-headquartered copper and gold mining company, with the Government of Laos owning the remaining 10 per cent. Phu Bia Mining owns and operates two award winning operations – Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver, both located in Xaisomboun Province, 120km north of Vientiane.

Site-based employees work a roster of 20 days on, 8 days off or 14 days on, 7 days off for shift work, while Vientiane – based employees work 5 days per week with 2 days off.

Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, you will be responsible for integrating the mine planning, mining sequence, pit development and drill and blast to optimize the ore delivery to the process plant and manage the waste to the waste dumps. Key aspects of the role are focused on integrated mine planning delivering the right quality and quantity of ore to the mill through plans that link life of mine through the operational strategic planning.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Mining production analysis to understand areas for improvement and development production improvement initiatives.
  • Pit designs and short to LOM schedules.
  • Mining budgeting and forecasting including schedules, equipment selection and requirements.
  • Provide a clear mining direction align with the budget or forecast
  • Associated mining infrastructure engineering management e.g. stockpiles, waste dump and water treatment systems.
  • Oversight and generation of daily , weekly , monthly and other reports as required.
  • Training and development of subordinates.
  • Participate in mine budgeting process.
  • Management and Delivery of Business Improvement programs.
  • Identifies key risks in the short and long term mine plans to put actions in place to minimise those risks.
  • Optimise the mine plan for high production and low costs.
  • Works closely with Mining Production and Geology to ensure effective ore extraction.
  • Delivering excellence input in drill and blast, optimising fragmentation, performance reconciliation and improvements delivering high quality blast outcomes;
  • Technical Support of mine development design as required.

 

To be successful in this role, you will require:

 

  • Degree or diploma in Mining Engineering or relevant program
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in Mine Planning and/or Drill and Blast. 1-2 year experience on senior mine engineer level will be preferable.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in Minerals mining company
  • Having a driving licence is will preferable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English and Lao language
  • Experience in Geovia Surpac, Geovia MineSched preferred or other relevant Mine Design or Planning software
  • Competency in Microsoft Office suite
