Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Family/Carer Peer Support Workers to join the PARC team at the Northern Health. 

 

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

 

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital.  In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

 

 

About Mental Health Division:

 

Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern.

 

Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles.

 

We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.

 

 

About the Role:

 

Carer/Family Peer Support Workers are an important element of the team approach and bring the wisdom of lived experience to many aspects of service delivery.

 

This role provides peer support to families, carers and supporters of consumers admitted to our prevention and recovery centre, by utilising your own lived/living experience of supporting someone with mental health challenges who accesses mental health services.

 

You will provide one to one and group support, information about navigating the mental health system, and linkage to relevant community services.

 

You will promote the voice of our families and carers through advocacy, ensuring that they are included in treatment planning for the consumer and that they receive support for their own wellbeing.

 

Work closely with consumer peer support workers, the CCU/PARC multidisciplinary team, and leadership to embed peer support and develop peer-led programs

 

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • To have cared for someone living with mental ill-health who is accessing mental health services;
  • Current driver's licence;
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft word, Excel and Outlook.

 

Experience:

  • The following are desirable for the role:
  • Previous experience in a similar role;
  • Formal qualifications with relevance to Family/Carer Peer Support work.  Such qualifications would include Certificate IV in Mental Health (Non-Clinical) Community Development, Certificate IV in Mental Health (Peer Work), Single Session Family Peer Work training, and/or Intentional Peer Support training.
