Purpose and Scope of the Job

Consultant will be responsible for the delivery of appropriate care and treatment for clients in his assigned dental sub specialty, responsible to examine, diagnose, and treat diseases, abnormalities, injuries, and dysfunctional disorders of the oral cavity and its associated structures. Administer dental service policies and establish and maintain dental health standards.

Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards

Ensures implementation of the Ministry of Health regulations, the Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and the Department Policy and Guidelines

2

Diagnosis and treatment of patients referred to department and responsible to run his/her own clinic.

3

Responsible to provide the highest quality of service to the patients under his/her care within the resources provided by the program

4

Examines,  diagnoses  and  treats  diseases,  abnormalities,  injuries  and  dysfunctional disorders of the oral cavity and its associated structures

5

Examines patients and interpret radiographs and diagnostic tests to determine type and extent of dental diseases and disabilities or dysfunctions

6

Evaluates  findings  and  prescribe  type,  extent,  and  order  of  treatment,  refer non-dental cases to the appropriate concerned medical specialty

7

Performs routine preventive, periodontal, oral surgery, endodontic, and prosthodontic treatment and provide the necessary consultation services.

Directs dental activities and formulate and implement policies and procedures for operation of base dental service

9

Determines requirements for material,   equipment, facilities, and personnel   to accomplish the mission of the Dental Unit.

Coordinates and discuss the relevant dental activities and the subsequent achieved performance with Medical Director.

Instructs dental physicians and the technicians in professional and administrative functions of dental service.

Manages and administer dental service policies and programs.

Drafts policies covering dental health standards and provide the necessary guidance for the implementation of   comprehensive   programs   to continuously improve prevention and treatment of dental disease to ensure maximum utilization of the resources and personnel.

Determines  and  advises  on  the  quality  and  quantities  of  resource,  supplies requirements for dental clinics and laboratories and maintain appropriate patients charts and updated records for continuity of care.

Participates  in  teaching  programs  in  the  Department  and  its  sections,  regular seminars, promotes clinical investigative work.

16

Maintains the highest professional standard of documentation in line with policies and procedures and internationally accepted standards.

17

Keeps  current  with  new  procedures  and  techniques  in  the  field  of  his/her specialty.

18

Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.

Participates in committee membership, if assigned

20

Provides leadership for organizational performance improvement activities.

21

Plans  for  the  provision  of  orientation,  in  service  and  continuing  education programs, along with other consultants of the department.

Maintains strictest confidentiality.

23

Accepts all other additional assignments found necessary by the Head of Department.

 Qualifications, Competences and Skills

Education

 

PhD/Royal College/Fellowship/Membership

Experience

 

10 years’ experience  with minimum  5 years  post Fellowship/Membership experience in relevant specialty

Licensure

 

Valid  Kuwait License

Language

 

Well versed in English and Arabic

Computer Proficiency

 

Good Computer Skills

Good communication skills

Knowledge of Required Organizational practices /patient safety standards.

Command over professional code of ethics , medical bylaws

4

Knowledge of evidence based Age specific/ Population specific patient care clinical guidelines accepted by the hospital

5

Culturally competent ( Kuwaiti patients’ culture and beliefs)
