Job Summary

Custodian provides coordinated janitorial services in the school and parish buildings and provides set-up and cleaning services for evening or weekend activities in the parish facilities.

Job Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains church, other parish buildings and school in a clean and orderly manner.  This may include dust mopping, vacuuming and waxing of floors, cleaning bathrooms, washing walls and windows and trash removal.
  • Performs scheduled monthly, semiannual or annual janitorial duties, i.e., floor waxing, painting, window washing, carpet cleaning, etc, as directed by Maintenance Supervisor, and in accordance with parish maintenance schedule.
  • Inspect and clean walls for graffiti and markings, if necessary.
  • Performs light maintenance as directed by Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Cleans up litter outside and grounds keeping.
  • Duties may include facility set-up, hauling and moving of furniture and equipment.

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

  • Must have knowledge of janitorial equipment, supplies and their applications
  • Knowledge of and experience with industrial strength cleaning chemicals required
  • Previous janitorial experience required

  • Must have ability to perform outlined tasks with minimum supervision and be self-motivated
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to tolerate varying temperatures and climate changes
  • Frequent lifting, must be able to lift at least 50 - 75 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule with evening and/or weekend hours
