Department Overview
In PG&E’s Commercial Growth Organization (CGO) the Electrification, Decarbonization, and Mobility team is responsible for administering a portfolio of customer programs including building electrification, energy efficiency and transportation electrification programs that help PG&E customers in Northern and Central California manage the energy use of their homes and businesses. PG&E has been a national leader in energy efficiency since 1976 and continues to recruit and develop individuals to carry the Department’s legacy of effective building electrification and energy efficiency programs into the future.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will be a part of a team of four-to-six engineers responsible for Energy Efficiency incentive programs’ quality control.
Specifically, the team is responsible for communicating the Custom and SEM policies and methods to the relevant stakeholders including program implementers, portfolio managers, external engineering firms, and PG&E customer account managers within the Business Energy Solutions team. The team has significant interaction with CPUC Staff to manage the ex-ante review process of projects and advocate for improvements to EE policy and guidelines. The team also supports other QC&C initiatives, as needed.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location on average between 0-3 days per week or as business needs require. The preferred work location is Oakland, CA. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory and agreed upon between the hiring leader and successful candidate.
PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position. The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The range to reasonably expect will be between the minimum to the midpoint of the range. The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Bay Area Minimum: $95,000.00
Bay Area Midpoint: $119,000.00
Bay Area Maximum: $143,000.00
and/or
California Minimum: $90,000.00
California Midpoint: $113,000.00
California Maximum: $136,000.00
Job Responsibilities:
- Prioritize and promote safety in all work activities.
- Demonstrate and support PG&E’s Virtues (Trustworthy, Empathetic, Curious, Tenacious, Nimble, and Owners) through daily work activities and interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct technical and policy reviews of Custom and SEM projects to ensure compliance with program requirements, regulatory guidance, and internal standards.
- Perform engineering assessments of technologies, energy efficiency measures, and program offerings to support accurate savings calculations and program integrity.
- Develop, update, and maintain technical and policy documentation, incorporating changes from codes and standards, EM&V studies, industry practices, and emerging technologies.
- Analyze and interpret complex technical and program data, and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal teams, program implementers, and external partners to support project reviews, resolve issues, and improve program processes.
- Support interactions with CPUC staff, including contributing to the ex ante review process and responding to data requests as needed.
- Identify opportunities for process and technical improvements and contribute to implementation of enhancements across the QC&C program.
- Manage and track project work in Energy Insight (Salesforce), ensuring accurate documentation, data integrity, and timely processing.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- BS Engineering or equivalent experience
- 2 years of job-related experience
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license or ability to obtain by first day of employment
Desired:
- BS Mechanical / Electrical
- Engineer in Training (EIT)
- Background in thermodynamics, with knowledge of construction and maintenance terminology, processes, procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local codes and standards
- Knowledge of California Energy Efficiency programs, including Custom and SEM regulatory requirements, Policy Manuals, CPUC Decisions and Resolutions, the CPUC (ex-ante) Custom Project Review process, and evaluation activities
- Knowledge of Custom Calculated project processes, Deemed Measure Package processes, Normalized Metered Energy Consumption (NMEC) processes, and tools such as the California electronic Technical Reference Manal (eTRM).
- Experience delivering high quality customer service and collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate complex information to both technical and non technical audiences
- Experience driving process and technical improvements across technical and non technical stakeholder groups
- Experience working with customer relationship management platforms such as Salesforce
- Proficiency with Microsoft tools including Teams, Visio, Power BI, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Copilot, and Project
