Operations and Real Estate Partnerships Division (OREP) is the largest shared service division at the University of Toronto, providing a wide range of services to the University and serving three campuses. OREP is responsible for several key portfolios within the University, including Information Technology Services, Facilities and Services, University Planning Design & Construction, and Spaces & Experiences. We strive to provide efficient and effective services that support the University’s mission of knowledge creation, educational program delivery and community service. OREP Financial Strategy and Services Department (OFSS) works closely with other departments, as well as internal and external stakeholders, to manage OREP’s financial resources, enhance operational efficiency, and improve financial management capacity. OFSS provides strategic advice, enhances support for the decision-making process, ensures compliance, manages risks, optimizes financial processes, adopts new technologies, improves existing systems, and promotes best practices.
Your Opportunity:
The Data & Reporting Analyst plays a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and optimizing complex data management and reporting solutions that support the full spectrum of financial operations, including Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Financial Accounting, and Controllership (FAC). This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end financial data lifecycle across multiple financial and operational systems. By ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards, the incumbent enables timely, reliable insights that power critical deliverables across budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial compliance.
Working in close collaboration with FP&A and FAC teams, the analyst takes a holistic approach to financial data management, ensuring alignment across functional workstreams and business cycles. The role leads the development of advanced analytics, dashboards, and automation tools that support multi-year planning, variance analysis, and strategic decision-making. It also involves responding to ad hoc requests, managing data projects, and advising stakeholders on reporting standards and tools. With a strong emphasis on continuous improvement, data integrity, and cross-functional coordination, this position is critical in advancing a data-informed culture and improving the division’s financial decision-making capacity.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing and managing data pipelines that integrate financial and operational data from multiple systems
- Developing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to support financial planning and decision-making
- Automating data extraction, transformation, and reporting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Conducting financial and operational analysis, including trend analysis, forecasting, and predictive modeling
- Ensuring data quality through validation, reconciliation, and monitoring processes
- Supporting the development and implementation of divisional data standards and best practices within the enterprise data governance framework
- Collaborating with IT and finance teams to enhance system integration and data architecture
- Leading and supporting data and reporting projects, including planning, execution, and stakeholder coordination
- Preparing reports, presentations, and insights for senior leadership and stakeholders
- Providing advisory support and training on data tools, reporting standards, and analytics practices
Essential Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
- A university degree in Finance, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A professional designation (e.g., CPA, CFA, CBIP) or certification in data analytics is considered an asset.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in financial data analysis, enterprise data management, or systems integration within a complex institutional or public sector environment.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing large-scale data systems, reporting architectures, and financial dashboards.
- Hands-on experience with data management and predictive analytics is required.
- Familiarity with major ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), financial planning tools, and business intelligence systems is essential.
SKILLS:
- Advanced proficiency in SQL, Python, Excel, and data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent.
- Strong working knowledge of data modeling, business intelligence systems, and financial reporting standards.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to synthesize large, complex datasets into meaningful insights.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical data to non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated project management capability, attention to detail, and ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills, political acumen, and a commitment to continuous learning and innovation.
