The City of Boroondara is seeking a Data Visualisation Specialist to join our Data Analytics & Insights team on an 18 month full-time limited tenure opportunity. Based at the Camberwell Office with flexible working hybrid arrangements, you’ll turn complex data into clear, compelling dashboards and reports that support informed decisions across Council.

A little bit about the role

Reporting to the Data Analytics & Insights Lead, the Data Visualisation Specialist is responsible for turning complex data into compelling stories to generate data-driven insights that will influence decision-making, enhance operational efficiency, and improve customer experience.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Working across the full BI lifecycle with an emphasis on requirements gathering, data modelling, dashboard design, development and deployment.

  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand and translate reporting needs into actionable data visualisation and reporting solutions.

  • Translate insights into compelling data stories and accessible visual outputs aligned to templates and UI/UX best practice.

  • Supporting end-to-end testing and end user training.

  • Partner with stakeholders to uplift data literacy, drive adoption, and continuously improve reporting.

A little bit about you

You will have strong experience building advanced multi-source Power BI solutions (including DAX and Power Query) and visual storytelling. Strong SQL capability in a Microsoft environment (e.g., SQL Server/SSMS/Azure) and solid data modelling skills. You will have excellent stakeholder engagement and presentation skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to understand business processes and problems and design and build data and analytics solutions to solve the problem. With tertiary qualification in Data Analytics, Data Science, Information Technology or a related field of study with equivalent industry qualification and/or relevant work experience.
