The Role

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for carrying out activities and programmes to ensure compliance with the site’s Industrial Emissions Licence (IEL), ISO 14001 requirements, and local and Corporate environmental programmes and initiatives.

The EHS Specialist manages the Environmental Specialist to ensure that all plant and site activities comply fully with all regulatory and Corporate requirements.

The Environmental Specialist will work closely with EHS Manager, and other Managers and staff to drive improvements in all EHS programmes on site.

The Environmental Specialist will measure, monitor and evaluate site Environmental performance, according to established procedures, to drive continuous improvement. 

The Environmental Specialist will support and develop the site's Environmental activities.

Duties

•    Operation of the site’s Waste Water Treatment Plant and Waste Air Treatment Plant.
•    Sampling and analysis of effluent samples in accordance with IEL requirements.
•    Ensuring activities are carried out in compliance with the site’s IEL.
•    Involved in the preparation of quarterly and annual environmental report for submission to the EPA.
•    Regularly interfacing with Management and employees to ensure compliance with the site’s IEL, relevant Regulations, codes of practice and internal standards.
•    Delivering relevant training to staff as agreed with the EHS Manager, assessing competency levels through training and behavioural auditing process. 
•    Supporting the site’s response to Regulatory, Corporate and Environmental Management System audits.
•    Supporting improvements in EHS behavior by identifying and participating in EHS activities of the site.
•    Participating in the plant‘s OPEX programmes as required.
•    Monitoring the management of waste activities on site.
•    Actively participating in departmental meetings, training, incident reporting and investigations.
•    Working with site Management to liaise with Regulatory Agencies and local community bodies if required.
•    Working with site Management to audit and maintain an effective Environmental Management System.
•    Working with the EHS Manager to ensure that all required environmental policies, procedures, and facilities are in place to comply with the site’s IEL and the requirements of ISO 14001.

•    Ensuring that all relevant environmental records and reports are obtained/prepared, analysed and maintained.
•    Leading environmental incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis if required, identifying corrective and preventive actions and presenting findings to Management. Driving the tracking and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
•    Any other reasonable duties as requested by the EHS Manager.

Who You Are

•    Essential: Degree and/or a recognised Environmental qualification

•    Experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally within an FDA regulated environment.
•    Experience in the operation of Waste Water Treatment Plants/Waste Air Treatment Plants
•    Demonstrated project management and multi-tasking ability.
•    Risk management experience.
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to conduct verbal presentations

•    Ability to prioritise work.
•    Ability to work under pressure to meet scheduled deadlines.
•    Ability to multitask.
•    Flexible and constructive approach to problem solving.
•    Environmental conditions:  Ability to travel on an infrequent basis inter- company, to training programs, etc. 
•    Physical requirements: General level of fitness i.e. fit for work.

Critical:    Thorough understanding of relevant EHS regulatory policies, procedures, and processes.
Ability to motivate and influence others to achieve regulatory objectives; willingness to take ownership of issues and win buy-in of others.

Essential:    Mature judgment and decision-making ability.
Flexible approach to work, including availability.
Highly committed, with ability to combine innovation with management of day-to-day operations.
Leads and works well within a team environment.
High energy levels with a passion for Safety and the Environment.

Desirable:     Six Sigma Plus Green Belt, or ability to become certified within one year.
