Events Programming Specialist (Cultural Services)

 

We’re looking for a creative and community‑minded Event Programming & Special Events Coordinator to help bring 90 North Park to life year‑round. This role leads the planning, development, and implementation of new event programming while supporting Village‑sponsored special events and Cultural Services initiatives.

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing new event programming at 90 North Park and supporting the execution of existing Village-sponsored special events and additional Cultural Services initiatives. This position plays a pivotal role in expanding community engagement by creating innovative, mission-aligned programming that activates the 90 North Park space throughout the year.
The position assists the department in event logistics, operational planning, marketing support, vendor coordination, and on-site execution. A strong emphasis is placed on cultivating and securing event sponsorships, partnerships, and in-kind contributions to enhance program offerings and reduce event-related costs.

JOB DUTIES:
1.    Plans, coordinates, and implements new cultural, recreational, and community-focused events and programs at 90 North Park, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and Village priorities.
2.    Assists with operational planning, vendor coordination, logistics, scheduling, volunteer support, and event-day execution for major Village events, including but not limited to Septemberfest, Prairie Arts Festival, Prairie Plein Air Competition, and Tree Lighting.
3.    Identifies, cultivates, and secures sponsorships and partnerships for both new programming and existing Village special events. Prepares sponsorship proposals, maintains sponsor relationships, and ensures fulfillment of sponsorship benefits.
4.    Supports procurement functions by gathering quotes and assisting with bid and proposal specifications. Coordinates event timelines, checklists, equipment needs, and vendor communications.
5.    Serves as a point of contact for residents, community groups, businesses, artists, performers, and vendors seeking involvement in 90 North Park programming or Village events. Provides timely and professional customer service.
6.    Assists with updates to event-related web pages, social media posts, and promotional materials in coordination with departmental staff.
7.    Helps maintain financial, participant, sponsorship, and operational records related to 90 North Park programming and Village events. Prepare summary reports as requested.
8.    Provides hands-on support during event setup, operations, and takedown. Serves as a visible and engaged onsite representative of the Cultural Services Department.
9.    Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.    Bachelor’s degree in Event Planning, Recreation, Marketing, Public Administration, Arts Management, Business, or a related field.
2.    A minimum of two years of experience in event coordination, community programming, or related areas. Experience securing sponsorships or partnerships is strongly preferred.
3.    Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.    Work is performed in both a standard office environment and outdoor event settings.
2.    Regular exposure to varying weather conditions during outdoor programming and special events.
3.    Periods of prolonged computer use, concentration, and administrative work.
4.    Extended standing, walking, and physical activity during events, including setup and takedown tasks.
5.    Ability to manage frequent interruptions and shifting priorities, especially during event operations.

 

STARTING PAY RATE:  $37.39 - $41.59 per hour based on a 40-hour workweek.  Salary dependent on qualifications.  The salary range for this position is $37.39 - $54.21.
