Who Are We? | Ko wai mātou?

Wai Hononga Water Services Ltd is a newly established organisation, currently transitioning into its full role and responsibilities from New Plymouth District Council. We are in a formative phase, progressively building our services, systems and capability to ensure a seamless continuation of service for our communities.

During this establishment period, our focus is on setting strong foundations - supporting transition activities, developing organisational capability and maintaining continuity of service while meeting all regulatory and legislative obligations.

The Opportunity | Te āheinga

We’re seeking an experienced Executive Officer to join Wai Hononga in a permanent, full-time role, reporting directly to the Chief Executive. This is a pivotal position at the heart of the organisation, supporting effective leadership, strong governance, and high-quality organisational delivery during an important establishment phase.

Working closely with the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team, Company Secretary and Board, you will provide exceptional executive and governance support that enables informed decision-making and coordinated action. You’ll play a lead role in administering Board and governance processes, managing organisational records and controls, and ensuring Wai Hononga meets its obligations under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA).

This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape a new organisation from the ground up - building trusted systems, supporting strong relationships, and contributing to a culture of professionalism, accountability and excellence. If you thrive in a fast-paced, high-trust environment and enjoy working at both a strategic and operational level, this is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

  • Coordinate Senior Leadership Team and Board processes, including meetings, agendas, papers, minutes and governance records.
  • Manage diaries, correspondence, briefings, reports, presentations and executive documentation with accuracy and discretion.
  • Support financial and business planning activities, including expenses, invoicing, budgeting and resource coordination.
  • Manage and coordinate LGOIMA and official information requests, ensuring accuracy and statutory timeframes are met.
  • Maintain quality assurance, version control and secure management of establishment and governance documentation.
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including mana whenua, using culturally responsive practices.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and high‑performing workplace through collaboration, compliance, risk management and continuous improvement.

  • Five-plus years provision of senior management support, preferably with a listed company or state-owned enterprise level. Ideally with some Board governance exposure.
  • Sound administrative skills with experience coordinating activities, supporting internal and external communications, report preparation, researching and responding to queries and managing day to day administration requirements of others.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage confidential and sensitive information and ensure timely, accurate responses to information requests.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively apply management experience to support compliance and best practice and support meeting processes and record management.
  • Strong computer skills at an advanced level particularly across the Microsoft Suite.
