Finance Manager- Group Accounting (Contract)

 

Execute accounting functions at a level that will enhance the effective operation of the department and the achievement of the goals and objectives.

 

 

Location: Kingston

 

As a Finance Manager- Group Accounting, you will:

 

  • Manage and review of team members’ work, ensuring that all financial transactions are appropriately recorded and that the ledger reflects the true financial condition of the company.
  • Evaluate, monitor & manage control procedures and financial reporting processes surrounding the general ledger (bank reconciliations, sub-ledger reconciliations, account analyses, fixed asset register, expense variance reports etc.).
  • Ensure all audit requests are executed.
  • Manage processes to ensure that the sub-ledger results are appropriately incorporated into the general ledger.
  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process, including timelines, inputs, reviews and follow-up with relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor variances between actual and budgeted results and escalate significant exceptions.
  • Analyse the accounting treatment of complex events or transactions and analyse complex financial statement note disclosure.
  • Manage the preparation of the consolidated Financial Statements.
  • Develop strategies to reduce existing related party balances.
  • Ensure settlement of intercompany positions and the balances are held at a minimum.
  • Coordinate the production of the Sagicor Group Reporting Package.
  • Monitor variances between current and prior year actual and escalate exception variances.
  • Coordinate the year end and quarterly audit exercise.
  • Coordinate the process to generate disclosure notes required for the year end financials.
  • Document/update the accounting policy and process to account for Options, Grants and ESOP including treasury shares.
  • Maintain the schedule and ensure that the correct accrual is being booked by each entity.
  • Coordinate with the Compensation Specialist to obtain shares granted for each measurement year and book the related accounting entries.
  • Prepare Treasury Stock Movement Schedule.
  • Recalculate AIP at least quarterly based on the plan rules.
  • Review BOJ quarterly filings to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Review monthly expense analyses to identify significant variances, trends and unusual movements.
  • Resolve outstanding Income Tax and GCT filing matters for the holding companies.
  • Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time.

 

What do you need?

 

  • Professional accounting designation (ACCA, CPA) or equivalent with experience in accountancy.
  • A minimum of five (5) years managerial or supervisory experience in a Bank, Life Insurance Company, Financial institution or Audit Firm.
  • Sound knowledge of computer software packages including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Strong knowledge of a broad range of disciplines including Financial Reporting and Analysis, including IFRS, Planning & Budgeting, Taxation and Accounting Practice in financial services entities.
  • Possess excellent organizational and time management skills, communication skills, flexibility and an ability to manage the variety of tasks assigned.
  • Working knowledge of policies and procedures and knowledge of the company’s operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to produce reports.
