Purpose

A Financial Controller, is a senior executive responsible for managing the financial operations of an organization. The role involves overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and internal controls to ensure the company's financial stability and growth.

Key Accountabilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Financial Planning and Analysis:

• Develop and manage the company's financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
• Analyze financial data, performance metrics, and trends to provide insights and recommendations for strategic decision-making.

2. Financial Reporting:

• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies in financial reporting.
• Present financial reports to management, stakeholders, and external auditors.
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

3. Budgeting and Cost Management:

• Implement cost control measures and operational efficiencies to achieve financial goals.
• Analyze variances and implement corrective actions as necessary.
• Develop annual budgets and monitor financial performance against budgeted figures.

4. Internal Controls and Compliance:

• Establish and maintain internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and internal policies.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and reviews.

5. Cash Management:

• Oversee banking relationships and treasury functions to maximize returns on idle funds.
• Manage cash flow and liquidity, optimizing working capital and ensuring timely payments to vendors and creditors.

6. Financial Systems and Technology:

• Implement and maintain financial systems and software to streamline processes and enhance reporting capabilities.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and recommend improvements to existing financial systems.

7. Team Leadership and Development:

• Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to the finance team.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance department.
• Develop and mentor finance staff to enhance their skills and performance.

8. Strategic Financial Planning:

• Contribute to strategic planning by providing financial insights and recommendations.
• Evaluate the financial viability of new projects, investments, or acquisitions.
• Assess the financial impact of business decisions and proposed strategies.

9. Taxation and Compliance:

• Coordinate tax planning and compliance activities, ensuring accurate and timely filing of tax returns.
• Optimize the company's tax position and minimize tax liabilities within the legal framework.

10. Financial Analysis and Business Support:

• Collaborate with other departments, providing financial expertise and support for business projects and decisions.
• Conduct financial analysis, interpret trends, and provide actionable insights to support operational and strategic initiatives.

Key Performance Indicators

Key Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree or CPA certification is a plus.
• Extensive experience in finance or accounting roles, with progressive leadership responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and compliance standards.
• Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to think strategically and make sound financial decisions to drive the organization's success.
