Apply NowHow you’ll make a difference: This role holds primary accountability for ensuring WCB maintains full legal compliance in its use of all software assets. Beyond compliance, this role is foundational in creating transparent, data‑driven visibility into the true cost of the company’s software estate, enabling executive leaders to make informed and strategically aligned technology investment decisions. As part of the IT Asset Management function within Business Technology Services, the position upholds established processes, maintains accurate asset records, and supports adherence to all internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
Your responsibilities: • Provide leadership and oversight for major Software Asset Management (SAM) initiatives, including audits, true‑ups, renewals, and remediation projects. • Facilitate and support the development or refinement of Asset Management & Compliance processes. • Lead Software Asset Management‑related components of enterprise initiatives or projects as the subject matter expert. • Research emerging software concepts and share the insights to inform policy, process, and technology decisions. • Provide regular dashboard reports and executive summaries on software asset status, compliance risks, and value optimization to IT leadership. • Compile, prioritize, schedule, and execute annual software reconciliations and renewals for complex software products, ensuring WCB complies with all usage, deployments rights and contractual obligations. • Produce detailed and summary audit reports for completed software reconciliations to maintain readiness for external manufacturer audits. • Facilitate and track remediation of non-compliant software findings. • Conduct regular audits of prohibited software and coordinate removal actions. • Serve as the primary subject matter expert for external software audits, leading all phases of the audit process, coordinating with vendors and internal teams, and ensuring accurate data and timely resolution. • Interpret complex software usage data, entitlements, and licensing terms to support informed decision‑making, resolve compliance issues, and optimize the organization’s licensing position. • Manage licensing and subscription models for cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, etc.) and AI solutions (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, AI analytics tools, etc.). • Collaborate with teams to optimize SaaS and cloud subscription costs and usage. • Optimize software licensing spend across perpetual, subscription, cloud, and SaaS models by aligning entitlements with actual usage, harvesting licenses and enabling scalable deployment across environments. • Identify cost-savings opportunities during reconciliations to maximize value for WCB’s software investments. • Review governing agreements to confirm requirements, use rights, and limitations; complete legal review processes; and communicate contractual risks and mitigation options to business partners.
Your experience and skills: • University degree in IT, Business, or Computing Science or equivalent experience is desirable. • Several years of software asset management experience with a focus on software/SaaS licensing. • ITIL v4 Foundation or higher (preferred); Knowledge of IT Asset Management/Software Asset Management standards (e.g. ISO 19770). Professional Software Asset Management certifications (CSAM, CITAM) strongly preferred. • Ability to translate complex licensing concepts into clear, concise language that is easily understood by diverse audiences. • Familiarity with relevant compliance standards and regulations (e.g. software license legal terms, software audit practices; public sector procurement rules like Canadian Free Trade Agreement/New West Partnership Trade Agreement/Comprehensive and Economic Trade Agreement if applicable). • Demonstrated advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools—Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio, and Teams. Familiarity with BI tools for data analysis and reporting (PowerBI). • Proficiency with software asset management platforms (Ivanti IT Asset Management) and discovery tools (Ivanti End Point Manager, etc.). • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build effective working relationships across the organization. • Demonstrated self‑motivation, with excellent time‑management and organizational abilities to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. • Mature decision‑making, analytical problem‑solving, and investigative skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and recommend sound actions. • Foundational knowledge of project management concepts and techniques; formal training or experience is considered an asset.
