Do you want to prevent crime and harm, and contribute to making New Zealand (NZ) the safest country? As an intelligence professional in the NZ Police this will be your focus every day.
Intelligence is an indispensable enabler for NZ Police that touches on every part of what we do. Annually, Police Intelligence produces approximately 50,000 products. Some are short and tactically focussed, supporting day-to-day decisions. Other intelligence products are more in-depth with a longer-term focus aiding the development of long-term operational plans and organisational strategy.
As an Intelligence Analyst you will be required to use a range of information sources, apply analytical tools and techniques to understand complex policing problems, and develop compelling, critical analysis and advice to inform prevention and enforcement. You will also start/continue your journey of learning and development as a skilled Intelligence Professional.
We are looking for people who are self-motivated, innovative, inquisitive, committed to excellence, resilient, and firmly focussed on enhancing decision-making within NZ Police through the provision of timely, accurate and relevant intelligence.
Key Accountabilities:

Interpret the operating environment and deliver insights and early warnings on relevant crime and harm issues, and areas of public safety concern.

Proactively identify emerging or escalating trends in crime and harm and identify opportunities to prevent crime and harm.

Demonstrate critical thinking and apply analytical techniques and crime science theory to analyses.

Provide accurate, objective, and impartial intelligence insights, advice, and solutions within a timely manner. Provide sound reasoning within intelligence products to inform, support, and effectively influence decision makers.

Prepare and provide clear and concise written reports and verbal briefings appropriate to a range of audiences.

Contribute to core intelligence reporting and deliverables of the team. Collaborate on projects and group analysis.

Deliver intelligence assessments to inform tactical deployments and identify emerging risks.

Effectively manage competing priorities and demands to deliver quality work within agreed timeframes.

Demonstrate a committed, positive attitude towards teamwork and professional development. Develop and maintain an understanding of the NZ Police intelligence model and the role this position plays within it.

Champion diverse worldviews, different perspectives, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, identifying opportunities to reflect these in Intelligence products.

Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements
- This is an office-based role in Hamilton. Successful applicants must reside in Hamilton or must relocate.
- New Zealand or Australian citizenship, or a permanent New Zealand resident.
- Hold the NZ Diploma in Intelligence Analysis (NZDIA) or equivalent, or able to complete NZDIA modules early in employment. This requires travel to RNZPC for multiple two-week courses delivered on-site (Porirua).
- You may occasionally be required to work outside of set work hours and alternative locations, sometimes at short notice, for operational reasons. Shift work may be required to meet operational demand.
- Must be able to work rostered weekends.
- Must be willing to rotate into and/or backfill Tactical Intelligence role as/when required.
- Some domestic travel may be required.
- Hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.

To be eligible for this role, you may be asked to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance.
The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:
NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or:
- A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
- A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $87,306 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
