POSITION SUMMARY
The MC&C Technician I is an entry-level technical position responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance, inspection, calibration, and repair of measurement, control, and communications equipment used within the gas utility system. Under direct supervision and guidance, this role supports the accurate measurement of natural gas, reliable operation of control systems, and effective communication of system data while ensuring compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, inspection, and calibration of gas measurement equipment including meters, pressure/temperature transmitters, chromatographs, and recording devices.
- Perform routine meter inspections, basic verification testing, and assist with accuracy testing under the direction of senior technicians.
- Support the maintenance of gas measurement equipment to help ensure data accuracy and reliability.
- Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of control devices such as regulators, valves, RTUs, PLCs, and safety shutdown systems.
- Participate in testing and commissioning activities at regulator stations, gate stations, and compressor facilities.
- Identify and report equipment issues, abnormal conditions, and potential system malfunctions to senior personnel.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of communications equipment including radios, modems, cellular devices, telemetry systems, and related infrastructure.
- Support troubleshooting efforts for SCADA, remote monitoring, and communications systems.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance activities on MC&C equipment and facilities.
- Assist with diagnosing and repairing equipment, wiring, and communication issues under supervision.
- Respond to system alarms, equipment failures, and emergency situations as directed.
- Follow all applicable safety rules, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements including DOT, PHMSA, OSHA, and company policies.
- Complete required documentation, work orders, inspection forms, and maintenance records accurately and timely.
- Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and compliance activities.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, calibrations, and repairs.
- Learn to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and P&IDs.
- Coordinate activities with operations personnel, engineering staff, contractors, and vendors as directed.
- Participate in technical training and development opportunities to build competency in measurement, controls, and communications systems.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The team member in this role will:
- Serve as an Individual Contributor without supervisory responsibilities.
- Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.
LEVELING
The MC&C Technician I performs work under direct supervision, applies knowledge to straightforward tasks, handles basic issues, and escalates unfamiliar or more complex matters to higher-level staff.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Basic knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, or industrial maintenance principles.
- Ability and willingness to learn gas measurement concepts, instrumentation, controls, and communications systems.
- Basic understanding of electronic troubleshooting and calibration principles.
- Familiarity with computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to learn the use of test equipment such as multimeters, pressure calibration devices, and communication testing tools.
- Ability to read and interpret basic technical documents, drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Proficient in computer software to include but not limited to those used for data analysis (i.e. MS Office products)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and manuals.

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must possess and maintain valid driver’s license
- At least one (1) year of experience relevant experience in instrumentation, controls, communications, and/or gas utility operations preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate must be able to fulfil the following physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation:
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds independently and to team lift heavier loads safely following established safety procedures.
- Walk, stand, bend, squat, kneel, and/or crouch for extended periods of time, at times in confined spaces and/or awkward positions.
- Climb ladders, stairs, etc. and appropriately maintain balance.
- Navigate uneven, rough, or sloped terrain in all types of outdoor environments and conditions. (e.g., construction sites, fields, roadside, etc. with exposure to dust/dirt, insects, heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
- Visual acuity to read standard text on screens and documents, observe surroundings, recognize hazards, and perform tasks safely.
- Hear sufficiently to allow for general and phone communication and to respond to traffic and other job site hazards.
- Operate a vehicle safely in accordance with safe driving principles and frequently get in and out of a vehicle throughout the workday.
- Properly utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, hearing protection, protective clothing, etc. and perform duties for extended periods of time utilizing appropriate PPE.
- Problem solve, prioritize tasks, and interpret and understand written documents.
- Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery as necessary.
