MMF1929H: Asset Management (LEC 0101)
Course Description:
This course provides an applied introduction to modern asset management across both institutional and private wealth contexts. Students will examine how investment objectives are defined, how strategic asset allocation frameworks are selected, and how portfolios are constructed and implemented under real-world constraints.
The course emphasizes translating financial theory into practice. Particular attention is given to how investor objectives, behavioural considerations, governance structures, liquidity needs, taxation, and regulatory constraints influence real-world portfolio decisions.
Students will explore how different types of investors - including pensions, endowments, insurers, banks, and individuals - approach portfolio construction and risk management. The course also introduces practical portfolio construction tools and discusses how asset managers implement strategies through active and passive management

Minimum qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Mathematical Finance
- Industry experience in wealth management, risk management, financial engineering
- Prior experience teaching this course (or a similar course) at the university level
- Ability and experience teaching large classes
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in risk management and investment advising
Description of duties:
- Preparation and delivery of lectures in this course
- Preparation, supervision and grading of tests and examinations in accordance with university regulations
- Providing scheduled office hours for academic counseling of students
