ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician to support Body Shop operations by resolving production stoppages, implementing corrective actions, and optimizing equipment performance. The successful candidate will be responsible for analysing and preventing recurring breakdowns, ensuring equipment reliability, and driving continuous improvement within the production environment. This position is based in Body Shop - Production (Kariega)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnose and resolve production stoppages, equipment faults, and automation-related failures.
- Analyse recurring breakdowns and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and optimize PLCs, robots, welding, laser, sealer, bolting, conveyor, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Modify and improve diagnostic software and HMI systems to support efficient fault resolution.
- Conduct root cause analysis and document maintenance activities, breakdowns, and improvement actions.
- Support maintenance team activities to achieve production and OPR targets.
- Liaise with equipment suppliers and VW Group technology experts to resolve complex technical issues.
- Ensure safety systems, PLC backups, and robot programs are maintained and available for rapid recovery.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- National N Diploma, National Diploma, B-Tech, BEng, or BSc in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Siemens PLC and Robot training will be advantageous.
- Must be prepared to undergo and successfully pass the required assessments.
- Completion of VASS training is compulsory
Work Experience:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a technical maintenance environment.
- Detailed knowledge of vehicle manufacturing processes.
Technical & Behavioral Competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of Siemens PLC, automation, robotics, and industrial networking systems.
- Ability to analyse and interpret electrical drawings (E-Plan).
- Strong fault-finding and optimization skills on robotic, welding, laser, conveyor, hydraulic, pneumatic, and bolting systems.
- Knowledge of Profinet and Interbus communication systems.
- Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to engage at all organizational levels.
- Self-starter with a high level of accountability, attention to detail, and ability to perform under pressure.
