AEMO at the Heart of Energy

AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians.  Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.

About the role

You will actively contribute to key processes that have a significant financial outcome on the WEM and stakeholders, including procuring electricity capacity to meet short to medium term electricity needs of the grid. With a keen eye for detail and motivation to learn about this niche area in the WEM, you will be supporting the transition of WA’s electricity sector to a zero-carbon future.

Please note that there are two roles available.

What you will be doing

  • Undertake analysis to support a broad range of RCM functions and inform related decision-making processes.
  • Analyse with a high level of due-diligence and confidentiality, detailed technical and financial documents provided by electricity capacity providers (including renewable and thermal generation plants) as part of the annual certification of capacity process, often under strict regulatory timeframes.
  • Recommend process improvements that reduce compliance risks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Effectively communicate technical material to suit both internal and external stakeholders on matters associated with operational, technical and financial aspects of the RCM, including risks to capacity being connected to the WEM.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders including retailers, generators, the network operator and the policy maker.

What you will bring to the role

  • Tertiary level qualification in economics, legal, engineering, commercial, or a similar discipline.
  • Experience gained in a highly regulated and multi-faceted environment. (The ability to interpret legal instruments such as rules and procedures would be considered desirable).
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical concepts or complex data analysis to suit a wide range of audiences. This includes developing structured messaging to support different layers of management and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to undertake sophisticated data analysis using Excel, SQL or Python and develop insightful presentations.
  • Ability to operate under minimal supervision while demonstrating strong attention to detail with a strategic focus to solve problems.

In return some of our benefits to you

  • Flexible working: work from home, part time, job share, hybrid options, and additional leave options
  • Professional development via projects, industry networks, job rotation, study assistance and more.
  • Give back with up to 4 days of volunteering leave per year.
  • Reward your hard work with annual performance bonuses (subject to eligibility).
  • Embrace a healthier you with our wellness program, discounted health insurance, gym perks and our comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
