Introduction

Komatsu South Africa is seeking an experienced Master Artisan to join our team in Mokopane(Mogalakwena). The preferred candidate should have at least 8 years electrical/mechanical experience on Komatsu Face shovels or similar machines as well as Mechanical front-end loader WA1200 with relevant trade certificate.

 

The Master Artisan is a senior-level technical expert responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repair work on Komatsu and related earthmoving equipment. This role ensures optimal equipment availability, compliance with safety standards, and technical leadership within the team. The Master Artisan also plays a key role in mentoring junior staff and upholding Komatsu’s standards of excellence.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • N5 or higher and a Trade Test Certificate (Multi-skilled/ Dual Trade).

 

Experience:

  • 8 years post-trade experience on related heavy earth-moving equipment within the mining inudstry.

  • Proven track record in:

    • Major machine (component) rebuilds
    • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics
    • Independent field and workshop operations
    • Coaching and mentoring of apprentice and artisans

 

Specific knowledge requirements:

  • Extensive exposure to earthmoving machinery
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Advance proficiency in electrical and mechanical systems
  • Computer literate with ability to use diagnostic and reporting systems
  • Solid understanding of maintenance philosophy and scheduling
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of SHEQ compliance and legal safety standards
  • Commitment to good housekeeping and tool care
  • Valid driver's licence (essential).

 

Job description:

  • Perform electrical and mechanical maintenance and repairs on Komatsu and related equipment as per OEM manuals
  • Maximize equipment uptime by adhering to preventive and corrective maintenance schedules
  • Conduct advanced diagnostics and implement corrective actions
    Compile and utilise maintenance reports to guide service activities
  • Report any deviations or faults to the Foreman promptly
  • Comply with legal, Komatsu, and customer-specific environmental health and safety standards
  • Maintain tools in a safe, clean, and operational condition
  • Uphold housekeeping standards (5S) to reflect Komatsu’s professional image
  • Be available for standby and overtime work as required
  • Provide technical mentorship and support to junior artisans and apprentices
  • Lead or participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety briefings
