WELCOMING YOU TO THE TEAM
We are looking for a Mechanical Test Engineer to join our Mechanical Test Centre (MTC) in Halden, Norway. You will become part of our Technical organization and work in a highly specialized environment focused on testing and qualification of advanced cable and umbilical systems supporting some of the world’s most complex energy infrastructure projects.
The Mechanical Test Centre plays a critical role in ensuring that Nexans products meet customer requirements, international standards, and internal quality expectations. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Department Managers, Team Leaders, Laboratory Technicians, project teams, suppliers, contractors, and QHSE functions.
You will report directly to the Department Manager and contribute to both project execution and R&D activities in a dynamic engineering environment.
HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT
As a Mechanical Test Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and documenting mechanical and hydraulic testing activities for cable and umbilical systems. You will play an important role in supporting Nexans projects by ensuring that testing is performed safely, accurately, and according to customer and industry requirements.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and performing mechanical and hydraulic testing activities
- Designing, constructing, and verifying test equipment and test setups
- Preparing and documenting test procedures, certificates, and technical report
- Analyzing test data and providing technical feedback on results
- Ensuring proper calibration, maintenance, and operational readiness of laboratory equipment
- Supporting qualification of new products through participation in R&D activities
- Contributing to development of internal testing standards and procedures
- Ensuring compliance with Nexans quality standards, governing documents, and HSE requirements
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the testing environment
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to optimize testing activities

YOUR STARTING POINT

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline
- Experience working with mechanical testing, hydraulic systems, or industrial laboratory environments
- Knowledge of mechanical design and construction principles
- Experience using engineering design software such as Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
- Ability to understand and work with technical procedures and standards in both Norwegian and English
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Structured and systematic approach to work execution
- Strong focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence
- Ability to work independently and quickly adapt to new technical challenges
- Innovative mindset combined with flexibility and strong collaboration skills
- Fluent in both English and Norwegian, written and verbal
