Fall Creek is creating a world with better blueberries through its friendly, collaborative team spread across the globe. To help us accomplish this, we are seeking a qualified R&D Molecular Research Technician candidate. This position requires the ability to work on-site in Lowell, OR. 

 

This temporary position is an opportunity to develop the skills and hands-on experience needed to work in an industry molecular biology research lab. The R&D Molecular Research aTechnician employee will work collaboratively by executing and documenting established lab protocols on plant samples submitted for genotyping, as well as collecting field samples for phenotyping. 

 

What you'll do at Fall Creek:

  • Collect and process plant tissue samples for molecular analysis.
  • Perform DNA extraction and quality control using established laboratory protocols.
  • Conduct PCR-based assays and related molecular techniques.
  • Support high-throughput sample processing for genotyping workflows.
  • Perform field sample collection and phenotyping.
  • Collect and analyze data using Excel, GM HID, and other analysis software.
  • Keep full records of samples and experiments performed (traceability)
  • Accurately enter data and analysis information to an online database.
  • Follow company protocols to safely handle and dispose of biological and hazardous materials.
  • Present data and findings to small-medium sized groups.

 

What you bring to Fall Creek:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Plant Genetics, Botany, Biotechnology, or related field, or 2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Strong Interest in molecular biology, plant breeding, horticulture, botany or related field.
  • Experience with micropipettes is preferred.
  • Ability to work in, and maintain, a clean laboratory environment using aseptic technique when necessary.
  • Experience reading and following lab and experiment protocols (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • In depth knowledge of PCR and qPCR, familiarity with DNA markers and high-throughput sample processing and molecular genotyping workflows is a plus.
  • Experience with field sample collection and phenotyping is preferred.
  • Ability to thoroughly record and document experiments.
  • Experience with the full suite of Office software: most importantly Excel.
  • Previous handling of biological or hazardous material a plus.
  • Knowledge or use of statistical analysis tools and software a plus.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
