The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Music & Drama Teacher to join our Performing Arts department. This role is ideal for a versatile educator who is passionate about both music and the performing arts, and who can inspire students to express themselves confidently. You will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons that combine practical performance, theory, and creative exploration, contributing significantly to the vibrant cultural life of our school.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Curriculum Delivery: Plan and teach comprehensive Music and Drama lessons that cover theory, history, and practical performance skills.
- Production Management: Direct and produce school plays, musicals, and concerts, overseeing everything from rehearsals to stagecraft.
- Ensemble Leadership: Lead extracurricular groups such as choirs, bands, or drama clubs.
- Technical Instruction: Teach students how to read music, use recording software (DAW), and apply acting techniques (e.g., Stanislavski, Brecht).
- Assessment: Evaluate student performances and compositions against academic standards and provide constructive feedback.
- Resource Oversight: Manage the department budget, instrument inventory, and theater equipment (lighting/sound).
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Subject Expert: A degree in Music or Performing Arts, with strong knowledge of both disciplines.
- Versatile Artist: A multi-instrumentalist (preferably Piano) with a solid grasp of vocal coaching and stage directing.
- Academic Strength: Experienced in delivering structured curricula (e.g., GCSE, IB, or National Curriculum) and managing formal assessments.
- Technical Savvy: Proficient in stage technology (lighting/soundboards) and music production software (e.g., Logic, Sibelius).
- Inspiring Mentor: Ability to motivate older students, manage diverse classroom behaviors, and foster a professional rehearsal environment.
- Project Manager: Highly organized with the ability to manage the logistics of large-scale events and deadlines.
