Job Summary

The Part-Time Summer Maintenance Worker assists in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, appearance, and general functionality of parish and/or school facilities during the summer months. This position supports the mission of the Catholic Church by helping provide a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for parishioners, students, staff, and visitors. The employee performs routine maintenance, custodial, and groundskeeping duties under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, Pastor, Principal, or designated supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repair work on buildings, classrooms, parish facilities, and grounds
  • Assist with painting, touch-up work, and basic carpentry projects
  • Maintain outdoor areas including mowing, trimming, watering, weeding, and general grounds upkeep
  • Support setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, and equipment for parish, school, and community events
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities and report maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining walkways, parking lots, storage areas, and common spaces
  • Operate basic maintenance equipment and tools safely and appropriately
  • Help ensure compliance with safety procedures and diocesan policies
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders as assigned
  • Assist with seasonal projects and summer facility preparations
  • Maintain respectful and professional interactions with parish staff, students, volunteers, and visitors
  • Support the mission and values of the Catholic Church through professional conduct and service

Job Requirements

  • Previous maintenance, custodial, landscaping, or general labor experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance tools, equipment, and repair procedures
  • Ability to work independently and follow directions
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a church and school environment
  • Must successfully complete any required diocesan background checks and safe environment training
  • 20 hours per week during the summer months
