Your Opportunity:
Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Payroll and Benefits, and functioning as an integral part of the UTSC Human Resources team, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist provides a wide range of HR administrative support including payroll, benefits, HRIS data integrity and reporting, training and other HR activities.
The Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for providing excellent payroll and benefit services by: accurately processing payroll for faculty, appointed and casual non- unionized and unionized employees, from union groups and Policy Manuals; ensuring all related pay deadlines are strictly adhered to; training departmental clients regarding payroll functions/forms/timesheets/reports; creating reports from HRIS on a monthly basis; creating, updating and maintaining HRIS records/data; conducting benefit orientations for all new appointed faculty, unionized and non-unionized staff; investigating both payroll and employee benefit problems, rectifying as appropriate, and recommending solutions to the Supervisor, Payroll and Benefits for only the most complex of issues; providing assistance as needed to support the recruitment processes including supporting the Supervisor and Assistant Director with recruitment activity; remaining up-to-date concerning payroll and benefit issues/entitlements through all applicable policies and collective agreements and providing the Supervisor and Assistant Director, HR, with data/reports as required and participating on committees/special projects at UTSC and U of T.
Qualifications Required:
Education:
Post secondary education in payroll/human resources/finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be in posession of a PCP certificate or currently enrolled in the National Payroll Institute courses leading towards the PCP certificate.

Skills:
Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook and HRIS; mathematical and numerical aptitude is essential; sound knowledge of HR and payroll related policies, procedures, applications and related legislation; demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and oral and written communication skills required; excellent keyboarding/data entry skills.
Other:
Demonstrated and proactive customer service orientation with an awareness, and sensitivity to, diversity; ability to exercise sound judgement in prioritizing and time managing work and dealing with clients. Meticulous attention to detail is mandatory as is the ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Ability to work well alone and also value a team environment; effectively deal with multiple and changing priorities as well as demonstrate initiative and; undertake prompt, appropriate action to correct any inaccuracies. Knowledge of University processes and organizational relationships is a definite asset.
