About Us:

The Information Management Group (TIMG) is a trusted provider of secure information management, logistics, and digital solutions, helping organisations manage their physical and digital assets safely, efficiently, and compliantly.

As part of the broader Freightways Group (16 Businesses / 5000 people across AU and NZ) TIMG combines the strength and stability of a large, listed organisation with the agility and culture of a specialised business unit.

We’re looking for a People & Culture Manager who can strike the right balance between genuine care for people and a strong commercial mindset. This role requires someone who leads with empathy, builds trusted relationships, and creates a positive, high-performing culture - while understanding the operational and financial realities of the business. You’ll be confident making pragmatic decisions, providing clear and balanced advice to leaders, and ensuring people initiatives drive real business outcomes. If you can combine compassion with credibility, and people-first thinking with commercial impact, you’ll thrive in this role.

About the role

This is a sole charge position. While there is support around administration and documentation, you will own the P&C delivery.  There are a range of BAU activities which require solid generalist HR experience, but a large focus of this role is around initiatives to drive a safe, productive and engaging environment. As a senior leadership position, this role reports directly to the General Manager.

Partnering with leaders

  • Coach managers through performance, conduct and employee relations issues with a calm, solutions-focused approach

  • Build trusted, credible relationships across the business through authenticity and consistency

  • Design people processes that encourage early intervention and education

Owning the employee lifecycle

  • Oversee and provide guidance on recruitment - end-to-end

  • Ensure onboarding, probation and offboarding processes are carried out with with care and effectiveness

  • Maintain accurate people records and employment documentation

Leading employee relations

  • Manage ER cases from start to finish with professionalism, fairness and discretion

  • Provide clear, risk-based recommendations to leaders

  • Ensure compliance and strong documentation standards

  • Coach and educate leaders on HR processes, lifting  knowledge and capability and encouraging early intervention

Driving P&C operations & remuneration

  • Ensure consistent, fair application of policies and frameworks

  • Support annual remuneration reviews and salary benchmarking

  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of P&C data and records

Lifting capability & development

  • Identify capability gaps and support practical, fit-for-purpose development plans

  • Drive engagement with group-wide programmes (leadership, graduate, technical)

  • Encourage and support a shift toward employee-led development

Supporting reporting & projects

  • Deliver monthly P&C insights (headcount, turnover, absenteeism)

  • Contribute to group initiatives and business projects

  • Support engagement and employment branding activity

Shape

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven generalist P&C experience (Senior advisor level and above)

  • Strong employee relations capability with sound judgement. Experience with negotiations and ER situations is highly preferred.

  • Experience in designing strategies that drive productivity and engagement

  • Ability to work autonomously in a sole-charge environment

  • Strong knowledge of NZ employment law

  • A pragmatic, commercially focused mindset

  • A genuine interest in developing people and people-related systems.

Alongside this, you’ll bring a genuine and grounded approach - someone who is:

  • Approachable, warm and empathetic

  • Calm and resilient, able to navigate ambiguity and pressure

  • Trusted and professional, with strong personal integrity

  • Comfortable going deep to understand issues and improve them

  • Willing to challenge the status quo constructively, with respect and influence

  • Excited by change – and keen to support people achieve their potential

How you’ll operate

At Freightways, how you work matters just as much as what you deliver:

  • We act as a family – you build strong, trusting relationships and support people to succeed

  • We think commercially – you deliver practical P&C solutions that drive business performance

  • We take ownership – you operate independently, take accountability, and follow through

If you’re a pragmatic P&C professional who enjoys being close to the business, building trusted relationships, and making a tangible difference, we’d love to hear from you.
