About the Role

National Grid is seeking a highly motivated and organised Lead Skills Coach to support the delivery and continuous improvement of development programmes across a diverse range of business areas and learner groups.

 

Reporting to the Programme Specialist, the Lead Skills Coach will play a key role in ensuring high-quality learning experiences, supporting programme delivery, and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will provide operational and coaching support across multiple programmes, helping learners achieve competency while driving continuous improvement and consistency across the business.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Lead Skills Coach, you will:

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the Global Technical Training team, business stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Work closely with Performance and Progression Coaches to identify opportunities for programme enhancements, learner development, and continuous improvement.
  • Take ownership of Design Assurance and Network Control Development activities, including programme coordination and stakeholder engagement, ensuring business requirements are met and learners achieve competency within agreed timescales.
  • Lead the planning, organisation, and facilitation of programme events, including welcome days, inductions, celebrations, and other ad hoc learning events.
  • Provide support to colleagues during periods of increased workload, absence, or annual leave.
  • Support team governance and meeting activity, including undertaking technical secretariat responsibilities where required.
  • Coordinate and support meetings with learners, business representatives, and third-party providers, taking an active role in discussions to increase understanding of programme requirements and outcomes.
  • Support observations and reviews of training providers and assessors as required.
  • Gather and analyse learner and stakeholder feedback, identifying opportunities to improve programmes, processes, and learner experiences.
  • Support End Point Assessment (EPA) activities across a range of apprenticeship and development programmes, providing advice, guidance, and administrative support.
  • Act as a primary contact for training planning queries, working closely with Planning and Process teams to ensure learners remain on track and training commitments are delivered effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, business teams, the Global Technical Training management team, and colleagues to deliver a high-quality administration, coordination, and customer support service.
  • Contribute to the successful delivery of learning and development programmes while maintaining strong governance and quality standards.

What You'll Need

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret information, identify trends, and make informed decisions.
  • Experience managing, analysing, and presenting data effectively.
  • Proven ability to handle complex coordination activities and non-routine enquiries.
  • Knowledge and experience of Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as SAP SuccessFactors or similar platforms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate work while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to provide guidance, coaching, and support to learners and colleagues.
  • General education level qualifications in English and Mathematics.

 

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within a learning, training, quality management, or administrative environment.
  • Experience supporting apprenticeship, development, or technical training programmes.
  • Understanding of End Point Assessment processes.\
  • Broad business and/or technical knowledge gained through practical experience.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders across a complex organisation.
