Summary
The Project Accountant is a key member of the Project Accounting team and will report directly to the Project Accounting Manager. In this role, you will support accurate financial management of projects from initiation through closeout, ensuring timely reporting and strong cross-functional partnerships. You will collaborate closely with Sales, Operations, and FP&A to maintain precise financial records that help drive project profitability. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced‑ environment.
This position will support our Sparks Accounting team. It is eligible to work a hybrid schedule, generally requiring work in-office 3 days per week. This position is based out of Dallas, TX or Philadelphia, PA.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Manage project-level accounting including revenue recognition, cost tracking, and variance analysis.
- Prepare and maintain accurate project financial reports and update budget-to-actual comparisons under the supervision of the Project Accounting Manager.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes related to project accounts.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner closely with Sales to support margin reporting and accuracy.
- Collaborate with Operations to ensure financial tracking aligns with project timelines.
- Communicate financial status clearly and concisely to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Work with the General Ledger Team to ensure balance sheet accuracy.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Support maintenance of financial trackers and reporting templates.
- Assist in improving accounting workflows and enhancing data accuracy through process updates.
- Participate in system enhancements or ERP-related changes as needed.
Education & Experience
Required
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, ideally in project accounting, job cost accounting, or a similar discipline.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, etc).
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to explain financial information clearly.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience in the trade show, events, exhibits, or experiential marketing industry.
- Familiarity with ERP or project management software (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or similar).
- Experience engaging cross-functionally with Sales and Operations teams.
