PROJECT LEAD ENGINEER – OPEN PIT & UNDERGROUND

Based in Tabubil and reporting to the Manager - Planning, Strategic and Growth Projects, you will be responsible for coordinating and motivating teams in the Open Pit Mine Planning team, the Underground (UG) Mine Planning and Operations team, and the Open Pit Mine Operations team incorporating all engineering and operational functions to ensure smooth operations of the Open Pit (OP) and the UG interface.

 

Your role will involve:

  • Monitoring and managing all planning and operational activities within the Mine Planning section and Mine Operations relative to OP/UG interface so that they perform within the PNG Mining Act and Special Rules;
  • Able to deliver underground mine design studies for Ok Tedi and regional potential mining sites;
  • Ensuring equipment such as dewatering pump downtime is minimised and equipment availability is maintained to meet production targets;
  • Ensure open pit drainage systems linked to underground are maintained and operational;
  • Ensuring all Mine Planning tasks are in compliance with OH&S and Environmental policy and procedures;
  • Continuously improve the processes and systems capability to optimise compliance for medium to long term and strategic mine planning;
  • Providing assistance to the operational departments to deliver the open cut mine’s performance targets and maximising the value of the resource by ensuring open pit and underground interactions are maintained smoothly;
  • Delivering optimised planning to support operation and to maintain a stable operation; and
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

 

To be considered, you must possess the following:

  • A Degree in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering;
  • At least 10 years mining experience in a relevant field;
  • Proficiency in mining operations (both open pit and underground), planning and designing;
  • In-depth understanding of mining and mine planning processes;
  • Demonstrated competency in planning, budget development and cost forecasting;
  • Excellent contractor/stakeholder management and influencing skills;
  • Experience in delivering best practise planning advise to the business; and
  • Excellent team player with a high level of communication articulation, strong attention to detail, highly organized and committed to excellence in safety.
