The Role
Reporting to the Project Portfolio Manager, you will provide leadership across a portfolio of capital projects while supporting and mentoring Project Managers responsible for project delivery. You will be accountable for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with business objectives.
Working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and site leadership, you'll help shape project priorities, strengthen project governance, and ensure consistent delivery standards across the portfolio.
This role is based at Phosphate Hill on a 4/3 roster, with regular travel to Mount Isa.
Role responsibilities:
- Act as direct line manager to nominated Project Managers within Mechanical Discipline.
- Promote best-in-class safety and performance culture for the Project Team.
- Ensure Projects Team is familiar, competent, and efficient in applying the Southern Cross Fertilizers Project Management Systems (PMS) framework, including the onboarding / training of new personnel to Projects group.
- Develop and apply leader standard work (LSW) to ensure reports are operating according to defined project manager standard work (SW).
- Maintain effective working relationships with NAO Project peers and key site stakeholders.
- Provide leadership and guidance on project HS&E and risk management processes providing for incident and injury free project delivery.
What you’ll bring
You are an experienced engineering and project delivery professional who has successfully led capital projects within heavy industry environments. You understand the challenges of delivering brownfield projects on operating sites and can balance safety, quality, budget and schedule while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
You are comfortable leading teams, holding people accountable, and creating an environment where project professionals can perform at their best. Your practical approach, commercial mindset and ability to navigate complex industrial environments enable you to consistently deliver results.
To be successful, you will bring:
- You must be committed to positively contributing to our safe, inclusive and high-performance culture.
- A Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
- Significant experience leading capital projects and project portfolios within mining, minerals processing, chemicals, oil & gas, manufacturing or similar heavy industry environments.
- Experience leading project teams and managing multiple stakeholders across operating sites.
- Strong project governance, budgeting and contractor management capabilities.
- A demonstrated commitment to process safety and safe project delivery.
- Strong communication, leadership and influencing skills.
- Experience with SAP and Microsoft Project will be highly regarded.
