Position Summary
Responsible for the provision of assessment, diagnosis, medication management, and psychotherapeutic interventions in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
Job Responsibilities
- Makes assessments of mental health needs of clinical populations consistent with the delineation of privileges.
- Performs medical histories and physical examinations; diagnoses mental health/psychiatric conditions.
- Develops and executes treatment plans.
- Writes prescriptions and orders in accordance with regulatory requirements; triages and evaluates urgent patient issues.
- Provides psychotherapeutic interventions as needed.
- Carries a patient case load and has responsibility for maintaining assigned productivity expectations.
- Provides continuity of care through patient and family education. Identifies, documents and evaluates patient/family teaching needs. Develops/distributes educational materials.
- Participates in departmental staff meetings and committees as required and appropriate.
- Records medical information within the patients' electronic medical record.
- Provides education, training and mentorship to trainees and students.
Education
- Master's Degree in Nursing
Experience
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Expertise in psychopharmacology, substance abuse, smoking cessation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a strong academic background are highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills in person, via email and on the telephone.
- Patience and a high capacity for empathy and perseverance.
Licenses and Certifications
- NYS Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) license and current NP registration with psychiatry specialty practice.
- NYS Registered Professional Nurse license and signed current RN registration.
- Applicable National Board Certification (such as ANCC, PNCB, etc).
- Current BLS (must be issued by American Heart Association)
- Infection Control Certificate.
- Current Narcotics DEA registration certificate

Must be trained in and knowledgeable of all Hospital policies and procedures pertaining to hazardous waste and hazardous materials and maintain qualifications applicable to assigned work.
