Job Title:  Research Technician II

Division:  Neurology

Work Arrangement:  Onsite only

Location:  Houston, TX

Salary Range:  $35,591 - $41,872

FLSA Status:  Nonexempt

Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The lab is seeking a highly motivated, responsible, and organized Research Technician II to join a research team focused on understanding the genetics and pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Become an active member of a research team investigating neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on the molecular and cellular biology of Alzheimer’s disease. Provide responsible technical assistance in support of research projects by completing assignments requiring a basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to neurology and genetics, working under supervision by a higher-level research staff member. Training in specialized research methods in molecular and cell biology will be provided. 

Job Duties

  • Participates in studies directed by Dr. Joshua Shulman in the center for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases.
  • Collects, analyzes and appropriately documents experimental results. Training is specialized research methods in molecular and cell biology will be provided.
  • Integrates experimental genetic approaches using fruit fly's (Drosophil) with proteomics stemming from direct study of human subject cohorts.
  • Assists members of the research team in the conduct of experiments.
  • Handles and responsible for the routine fly maintenance.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.
