Job Overview
The CLS Development team is seeking a highly motivated engineer to join an automation group focused on advancing next generation technologies and driving innovation. In this role, you will contribute to high-impact, high-visibility projects that shape the future of our manufacturing capabilities. You will collaborate closely with TE’s technology teams to enhance productivity across existing processes while driving the development and implementation of cutting-edge manufacturing and digital solutions. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence strategic technology initiatives and deliver meaningful improvements across our operations.
The CLS Development team delivers turnkey solutions that take new innovations from concept through deployment. This role provides direct access to development and manufacturing lines for testing emerging technologies, so hands-on work in these environments is an essential part of the position. This full-time role is based in Hermosillo, Mexico.
What your background should look like
• Minimum B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering
• 5 -7 years of engineering experience focused on automation systems
• English, spoken and written
• Experience in automation controls, working with PLCs, HMIs, and other automation technologies.
• Ability to work with variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo motors, sensors, and actuators.
• Knowledge of PLC programming (Omron, Siemens, Allan-Bradley) and troubleshooting of industrial robots (KUKA, ABB, EPSON, etc.)
• Experience in machine specification documentation
• Proficiency with vision system programming and sensor knowledge (Keyence & Cognex)
• Strong electrical & electronic troubleshooting
• Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate concepts to cross-functional teams and leadership, defend engineering decisions, and persuasively promote the adoption of new products and processes.
• Familiar with Creo, SolidWorks or AutoCAD software to create 2D and 3D drawings.
• Propensity for learning new skills and improving personal development.
• Strong project management capabilities to oversee machine and equipment development from concept definition to full-scale implementation.
• Artificial intelligence experience preferred but not required.
Responsibilities Include:
• Leading the end-to-end development of automation systems, including gathering requirements, concept design, hardware and software selection, prototyping, testing, validation, and full-scale implementation.
• Performing hands-on experimental trials across various manufacturing techniques to validate designs and gather performance data.
• Interacting with vendors and supporting cross-functional teams as required to support process and automation development.
• Collaborating with Product Development Engineering to ensure designs are driven by design for automation and manufacturability principles.
• Developing specifications, analyzing engineering requirements, creating preliminary designs, and supporting pre-production fabrication and testing.
• Managing multiple projects simultaneously within a fast-paced environment.
• Using data driven analytical problem-solving techniques such Six Sigma, DMAIC, 8D, etc. to determine root cause of assembly problems with recommended solutions, driving improved process capability.
• Producing technical documentation, detail design drawings and requirements for process implementation.
• Documenting all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems.
• Assisting in development of project plans, including task definition and resource estimates.
• Continually researching new technologies and process techniques to drive quality improvements and conversion savings.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Regular cross-functional discussions on project deliverables and progress.
• Analyzing yield and process data to drive process optimization strategies.
• Adopting and adapting to relevant engineering standards and agency practices.
• Submission of preliminary invention disclosures detailing technical aspects of novel concepts
• Growing professionally into a technical expert and deployment leader for the next generation of manufacturing technologies, especially AI.
