About the Team & the Position
AEMO is undertaking a continuous improvement journey in its Ways of Working, adopting Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, and Lean, and scaling them pragmatically across teams. This role acts as an Agile coach and practitioner, building awareness and understanding of Agile delivery models, promoting best practice adoption, uplifting AEMO’s delivery capability, and mentoring teams to embed an Agile mindset.
This role contributes to AEMO’s success by promoting best practice and continuous improvement in Ways of Working, tools, and frameworks used by delivery teams to enable reliable, secure, and cost‑effective delivery and operations.
As a Scrum Master, the role is critical in enabling teams to work collaboratively, adopt Agile ways of working, and live AEMO’s values and principles across all phases of software delivery. This includes applying key software practices such as DevSecOps, cross‑functional teaming, and continuous delivery, and understanding their strategic business impact.
Position Responsibilities
- Act as a Scrum Master and Agile coach, ensuring best‑practice adoption of Agile principles and agreed ways of working.
- Facilitate all Agile ceremonies and promote transparency, inspection, and adaptation using Agile metrics and reporting.
- Enable delivery teams to produce high‑value increments aligned to team and business outcomes.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, and learning.
- Coach and mentor teams across AEMO to uplift Agile maturity and Ways of Working.
- Proactively remove impediments, eliminate waste, and facilitate effective stakeholder collaboration.
- Support product backlog planning, refinement, and sizing in partnership with Product Owners.
- Ensure alignment with delivery governance, risks, dependencies, and documentation requirements across the delivery lifecycle.
Position Requirements
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in Agile delivery as a Scrum Master and/or Agile Coach/Trainer.
- Demonstrated delivery experience in complex project and/or program environments.
- Strong understanding and practical application of multiple ways of working to achieve outcomes.
- Solid knowledge of key software delivery practices and their business impact (e.g. DevOps, cross‑functional teams, continuous delivery).
- Ability to engage, coach, and facilitate groups with diverse backgrounds and working styles, driving adoption of new ways of working.
- Experience supporting teams in the transition from traditional waterfall to Agile delivery.
Education/ professional Certifications:
- Relevant degree qualification in Business, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Scrum Master and/or other recognised Agile certifications required.
- Project management experience and certifications are highly desirable.
