Senior Claims Specialist - Disputes

 

  • $152,556 per annum + 12% superannuation
  • Full time, ongoing
  • Wadawurrung/Geelong based role (hybrid work from home – 3 days a week in office)

 

 

About the opportunity

 

The Senior Claims Specialist – Disputes, is responsible for maintaining oversight, leading, and driving dispute-related initiatives within the workers’ compensation scheme. The role plays an instrumental part in developing and implementing improvement strategies to strengthen dispute resolution performance across the scheme, excluding litigated matters.

 

Working in conjunction with other business units and key external stakeholders, this role supports the ongoing uplift of dispute practices and performance, and stakeholder engagement to ensure fair and timely dispute outcomes for the scheme.

 

Key accountabilities

 

  • Own and lead the implementation and ongoing delivery of dispute-related programs or initiatives within agreed timeframes and budgets, ensuring measurable outcomes aligned to WorkSafe’s strategic priorities and scheme performance objectives.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve dispute resolution performance across the scheme, including leading the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives in partnership with Agents and stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships with key dispute bodies and representatives, including the Workplace Injury Commission, Medical Panels, worker and employer representatives, and Agents, to promote constructive engagement and improved dispute outcomes.
  • Develop policy frameworks, operational guidance and strategic recommendations relating to dispute performance, considering broader scheme and organisational impacts when making decisions and/or recommendations.
  • Utilise subject matter expertise to provide authoritative advice to relevant Business Units and Divisional Governance committees, in addition to strategic dispute forums and steering committees attended by key external stakeholders.

About you

 

You bring a strong background in dispute resolution, with the ability to navigate complex matters. You have a comprehensive understanding of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation (WIRC) Act, including the practical application of section 232. Your experience includes leading others – formally or through influence – where you’ve guided team members and stakeholders, shaped decisions and contributed to a positive, solutions-focused culture. Further, you also possess:

 

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesise complex data and utilise Subject Matter Expertise to influence and gain endorsement / engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability working in an ambiguous environment where a responsive and flexible approach is required to ensure changing priorities and competing demands are met.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop and execute multi-faceted programs / systems/procedures to a high standard within a dynamic environment and with proven financial and commercial acumen and the ability to understand impacts of decisions on a broader organisational and scheme level.
  • Demonstrated risk management capability, specifically the ability to identify and mitigate risks through collaboration and influencing skills, including the development of innovative solutions in a complex environment.

 

Qualifications

 

  • A tertiary qualification in business, law or a related discipline is desired
