Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to either the Saginaw Service Center, Alma Service Center, Flint Service Center, or Royal Oak Service Center. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Senior EPC Project Manager oversees complex, technical projects to ensure they are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with established quality standards. This role leads cross-functional project teams comprised of internal stakeholders and external contractors. The Senior EPC Project Manager is responsible for project planning, execution, engineering oversight, quality control, safety compliance, status reporting, risk management, and project closeout activities. This position serves as the primary point of contact for project communications and is accountable for effectively identifying, mitigating, and managing project risks to ensure predictability and successful project delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare financial forecasts and provide ongoing reconciliation of resources and project expenditures while implementing measures to ensure projects remain within approved budgets.
- Identify and recommend new processes, techniques, and standards that enhance performance, drive continuous improvement, and resolve challenges on existing projects.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced EPC Project Managers regarding project governance and project management principles.
- Lead internal and external project teams through the planning, design, engineering, execution, and commissioning phases of utility projects and programs while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory and environmental requirements.
- Develop and manage comprehensive project execution plans for complex projects with significant integration requirements and performance tracking needs, including material procurement, milestone payment schedules, cash flow planning, communications, risk analysis and mitigation, resource management, and other project-related activities. Manage multiple projects simultaneously across various stages of the project lifecycle.
- Plan and execute the Project Lifecycle Process (PLP), including the development of project plans, schedules, and standardized project management deliverables, while meeting agreed-upon scope, cost, schedule, safety, and engineering quality objectives. Integrate safety into all aspects of project execution.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of project schedules in partnership with the Project Scheduling Group using approved scheduling tools. Ensure schedules incorporate project scope, constraints, risks, mitigation strategies, and appropriate levels of detail. Monitor schedule performance and manage risks related to critical path activities, negative float, compressed schedules, and schedule acceleration efforts. Communicate schedule status and impacts to project stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary lead for communication and negotiations with stakeholders, including delivering presentations to leadership, strategic customers, external stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
- Identify and manage project risks, issues, constraints, and potential reputational impacts to the company. Develop contingency plans, scenario analyses, and mitigation strategies to address project challenges.
- Provide input and direction regarding procurement strategies, contract development, contract negotiations, execution, and contract administration to maximize operational and financial performance while minimizing risk.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
