Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.  This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come.

This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.

Job Summary:

As a Senior Electrical Designer, you will be responsible for developing and coordinating electrical system designs for a large-scale nuclear power project. You will lead electrical design activities, prepare and review engineering deliverables, and ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will collaborate with clients, suppliers, contractors, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality electrical design solutions throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.

This position requires strong technical expertise in electrical power systems, a thorough understanding of engineering design practices, and the ability to independently resolve complex technical challenges.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the work of Electrical Designers and Drafters involved in the preparation of electrical layouts, design studies, 2D and 3D CAD models, and construction drawings.
  • Develop and review detailed electrical design deliverables for power generation and industrial facilities such as earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed.
  • Prepare and maintain high-quality electrical design documentation, drawings, and 3D models in accordance with project requirements and established design procedures.
  • Ensure that all electrical designs comply with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and project specifications.
  • Perform design reviews and quality checks of engineering and drafting deliverables to support safe, reliable, and cost-effective facility operation and construction.
  • Support the preparation of material requisitions, technical documentation, and bid evaluations for electrical equipment and materials.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and interdisciplinary design coordination meetings.
  • Develop and maintain electrical design and drafting procedures to promote consistency, quality, and efficiency across the project.
  • Coordinate with engineers, suppliers, contractors, and other disciplines to resolve design issues and support project execution.
  • Conduct site visits, as required, to support construction activities, resolve field issues, and interpret engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Review and assess electrical scope changes and provide technical input to project management.
  • Support the integration of supplier and subcontractor design documentation into the overall project design package.
  • Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance on electrical design best practices.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline, along with 5–8 years of experience preferably in EPC project environments.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience developing electrical design documentation, including layouts, installation drawings, cable routing drawings, equipment arrangements, and construction drawings.
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D design software used in electrical engineering projects.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary design models and coordinating electrical designs with other engineering disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, equipment layouts, cable management systems, grounding systems, and installation practices.
  • Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, vendor documentation, and construction documents.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently resolve technical and design-related issues.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in an international project environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
