Cameco Resources Smith Ranch-Highland facility is an in-situ mining operation near Douglas and Casper Wyoming
Position and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the position will include leading the Geology team in the development of mine unit groundwater restoration plans as well as planning mine unit development at current and potential future sites for all of Cameco Resources U.S in-situ operations in Wyoming and Nebraska. The long-term project responsibilities will include:
- Design coring and monitor well installation programs to generate data for use in hydrologic & transport models.
- Planning & oversight of field activities including coring operations, core recovery & preservation, core descriptions & sample selection for specialized analytical programs.
- Management and coordination of core testing programs conducted by contract laboratories.
- Monitoring restoration progress and wellfield & excursion control.
- Supervising staff in the development of geologic cross sections, roll front and isopach maps, geologic figures, geologic history and preparation & review of detailed geologic reports.
- Coordinating and planning with staff and technical consultants for the assimilation of various reports into a single comprehensive submittal to regulatory agencies.
- Project expense planning & tracking
- Contractor management
Another key responsibility will be for you and your Geology team to provide geologic interpretative support to operations in the planning & conducting of mine unit operation, restoration and potential future .
The position will also be responsible for the implementation of 3-D block modelling of CR mine units for use in designing complex restoration plans.
You and the Geology team will also be interpreting and correlating downhole geophysical logs and evaluating drilling data for the mapping and mineralization resource determinations of sandstone-hosted roll-front deposits.
Additional responsibilities of the Senior Geologist will include:
- Management of the CR mineral resource portfolio
- Supervision of Professional staff
- Property and resource evaluations
- Tracking the status of CR land and mineral leases and providing recommendations for lease retentions or acquisitions.
- Evaluating potential resource & operational impacts on CR properties from proposed oil & gas, wind and solar energy activities.
- Interacting with CR safety, radiation, permitting & operational staff and CR management, contractors, consultants, vendors and government agency representatives.
- Geologic & project report writing and reviews.
- Reviewing and interpreting monitor well water quality reports and provide input for wellfield & excursion control
- Maintenance of geologic records archive and providing data listing for internal or external inquiries.
Education and Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in geology, geological engineering or geohydrology (Master’s degree is preferred).
- Professional Geologist licensure (Wyoming is preferred)
- Experience in the mining industry; In-situ uranium mining being a plus.
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving and project management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in the management of drilling, coring and well installation programs
- Strong knowledge of geophysical logging principles, log interpretation and correlation
- Understanding of hydrologic concepts as they relate to uranium deposition & mining
- Experience in mineral resource estimations
- Experience with GIS (ArcPro is a plus)
- Experience with 3D block modelling software
- Skilled in word processing and spreadsheet programs
- Knowledge of mineral rights, surface rights and leasing
