Job Summary
The Senior HSE Field Technician supports Health, Safety, Environmental, Emergency Response, and Regulatory Compliance programs aboard Murphy Oil offshore assets in the Gulf of America. This position provides daily field-level HSE leadership, supports compliance with company and regulatory requirements, and helps maintain emergency response readiness across the facility.
The role works closely with Offshore Installation Managers, operations personnel, contractors, and Corporate HSE to support Health, Safety, Safety & Environmental Management Systems (SEMS) compliance, Production Safety System compliance, BSEE and U.S. Coast Guard requirements, incident prevention, medical readiness, and workforce engagement. The selected candidate must be a certified medic and able to fulfill the facility medical response function while performing HSE field technician duties.
Responsibilities
- Promote Murphy safety expectations and support an Incident and Injury-Free culture through visible field engagement
- Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of SEMS, Production Safety Systems, Firefighting & Lifesaving Systems, and other BSEE, U.S. Coast Guard, and company HSE requirements
- Participate in daily safety meetings, pre-job meetings, facility walk throughs, hazard identification, and field-level coaching
- Conduct or support JSA reviews, JSA audits, Permit to Work reviews, inspections, and compliance verification activities
- Support incident reporting, investigation activities, corrective action tracking, Learning from Incidents activities, and safety improvement efforts
- Maintain and support regulatory books, inspection records, training records, compliance documentation, inspection closeouts, and preventive maintenance tracking
Medical and Emergency Response Responsibilities
- Serve as the facility’s certified medic and provide emergency medical response, first aid, and patient care within the scope of certification and take directions from the Medical Director (MD) as required
- Maintain medical intake documentation, prescription medication verification records, medication inventories, expiring medication tracking records, and controlled substance logs
- Inspect, inventory, and maintain emergency medical equipment, including AEDs, LifePak systems, first aid supplies, and related lifesaving equipment
- Coordinate and support CPR, AED, First Aid, emergency response, fire drill, and scenario-based training for offshore personnel
- Participate in drill planning, emergency response exercises, debriefs, and improvement tracking
Safety Systems, Equipment, and Facility Support
- Support HLO operations, personnel manifests, package shipping, orientations, PPE inventories, and onboard safety logistics
- Maintain gas detector testing, maintenance, calibration records, and logs
- Coordinate PPE ordering, restocking, and program support
- Support boat checks, fire protection equipment checks, lifesaving equipment inspections, fall protection inspections, life raft checks, Bill Pugh inspections, cargo basket certifications, FRC sling certifications, and related equipment tracking
- Coordinate or support contractor inspections and maintenance activities for safety and lifesaving equipment, including fire protection, lifeboats, SCBAs, breathing air cylinders, and other emergency systems
- Support confined space entry activities, hull entry preparation, moon pool operations, and radiation/NORM survey coordination as applicable
Licenses/ Certifications
- Must obtain and maintain HUET and all company-required offshore training and medical clearances
- Current EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, National Registry EMT, Offshore Medic, or equivalent recognized emergency medical certification required
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required
Qualifications/ Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in HSE, oil and gas, and medic
- Ability to work a 14-days on / 14-days offshore rotational schedule
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage personnel, contractors, management, and regulatory representatives professionally
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and digital reporting or tracking systems
Work Environment
- Offshore Gulf of America production facility operating on a rotational schedule
- Requires travel by helicopter and/or vessel and the ability to respond to emergencies during the full hitch
- Must be able to work in an offshore industrial environment and meet applicable physical, medical, and training requirements
- May require participation in emergency drills, inspections, regulatory visits, contractor work oversight, and after-hours emergency response activities
Preferred Qualifications
- Offshore oil and gas experience preferred, with HSE, medic, production operations, or safety representative experience strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of offshore safety programs, emergency response, SEMS, BSEE, U.S. Coast Guard requirements, and company HSE processes preferred
- OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification
- Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) or equivalent safety certification
- Familiarity with Production Safety Systems or API RP 14C
- Incident investigation training and experience supporting corrective action management
- Experience supporting BSEE, U.S. Coast Guard, ABS, and third-party regulatory inspections
- Experience managing offshore medical supplies, controlled substance logs, emergency response equipment, and life-saving equipment documentation
Physical requirements typically include standing, stooping, walking, climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and wearing various personal protective equipment (PPE) in extreme variations of temperature year-round. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential, physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
