Job Overview
Key Job Responsibilities
1. Daily Shop Engagement: Go/See the production work areas regularly, attend recurring / standing meetings that communicate operational needs/requirements to assist with daily operational challenges. Examples may include a daily management meeting, a shop walk-through seeking ways to help resolve daily issues, a shift hand-off meeting, maintenance / production / scheduling meetings, a weekly meeting with the Site Manager, etc.
3. Engineering Change Control: With daily interactions, become aware of engineering changes that need clarifications, support production or other departments in engineering revision control, ensure current and accurate data is delivered with inquiries being addressed, delivering answers to the shop with a high sense of urgency to mitigate stalls and delays in production. Follow established process to update manufacturing documents as needed – i.e. drawings, production routers, programs, etc.
4. Develop Tooling Solutions: Assess work execution throughout manufacturing and design (via DFMA) and develop jigs, tooling, and fixtures to improve safety, ergonomics, quality, efficiency, and labor. Bring insight and solutions to work independently and/or through soliciting feedback from EHS, quality, production, manufacturing, or design engineering. Design, detail, and document tooling within 2D and 3D software and utilize the Komatsu part numbering and document control systems (ie Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault, SAP, View & Print). Integrate these into documented standard work and within SAP production routers. Lead to procure, validate, and formally commission tooling / fixtures / jigs / other to the shop.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering is highly prefered
- 10 years of heavy equipment manufacturing experience, specifically with welding, cutting, and CNC equipment. Experience in manufacturing and other combinations of work and experiences will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to express manufacturing concepts conversationally in meetings, face to face, over the phone and in email.
- Ability to work with people on a manufacturing floor in a productive and at all organizational levels within the business.
- Can plan and manage projects with manufacturing engineers, other internal departments, manufacturing sites, and suppliers to meet deadlines.
