About the Role Fable is looking for a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer with deep backend expertise, strong full-stack development skills, and hands-on experience building AI-powered applications and agentic workflows. This is a senior individual contributor role for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, takes ownership without waiting for direction, and consistently delivers high-quality software at speed. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will work closely with Product Management, Design, Development, Quality Engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering to design, build, and scale customer-facing products and platform capabilities. Success in this role requires strong technical leadership, adaptability, fast execution, and a passion for continuous learning in an AI-driven engineering environment.
ResponsibilitiesTechnical Ownership • Own technical solutions end-to-end, translating customer and business needs into scalable, production-ready software.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support software throughout its lifecycle.
• Take accountability for solution quality, maintainability, security, scalability, and operational excellence.
• Make sound architectural and implementation decisions with minimal oversight.
• Drive technical execution while balancing delivery speed with engineering quality.
• Proactively identify risks, remove blockers, and continuously improve engineering effectiveness.
Software Engineering • Design and build scalable backend services, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Develop modern full-stack applications across backend and frontend technologies.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested, and secure code.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, observability, and reliability.
• Contribute to architecture, technical design, and platform evolution.
• Improve developer experience through automation, tooling, and reusable engineering patterns.
AI Engineering • Design and build AI-powered product capabilities that create measurable customer value.
• Develop AI agents, agentic workflows, and intelligent automation solutions.
• Integrate Large Language Models (LLMs), AI services, and external APIs into production applications.
• Build prompt orchestration, tool-calling, and multi-agent workflows.
• Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), semantic search, and knowledge retrieval where appropriate.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and rapidly prototype new capabilities.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and similar technologies to improve engineering productivity.
• Continuously identify opportunities to use AI to simplify engineering workflows and improve customer experiences.
Product & Customer Focus • Partner closely with Product Managers and Designers to understand customer problems and business objectives.
• Translate customer needs into scalable, high-quality software solutions that deliver measurable business value.
• Participate in technical discovery, solution design, estimation, and delivery planning.
• Build solutions that prioritize accessibility, usability, reliability, and customer outcomes.
Engineering Excellence • Champion engineering best practices including code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and secure software development.
• Participate in peer code reviews and architectural design reviews.
• Improve engineering standards through documentation, automation, and continuous improvement.
• Participate in production support, incident response, root cause analysis, and operational improvements.
• Reduce technical debt while maintaining delivery momentum.
Leadership • Provide technical leadership across projects and initiatives.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
• Influence technical direction through collaboration and sound engineering judgment.
• Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
